Everyone from arrival to departure was totally on the game, smiles, languages, helpful - all like they mean it, which they probably do. Top end resort hotel keeping up standards off season (when I was last there). Everything you need and seemingly provided without question. Full kids club year round. A top end efficient international hotel resort, not a quirky designer spot, but La Barra has lots of that for you. Winter off season pricing makes this attractive for me and others at weekends and it is therefore busy. Full season pricing is up to you, but it will be good.

Room Tip: I think you will get what you are given for price, but the bedroom areas are only two levels so no n...

My first experience with Mantra in Punta del Estes was good, with the the pick up at the airport and transfer to the hotel by Moricio, this was a welcome relief from a long flight. Moricio also works at the front desk and is a great source of information and advice during your stay on what to do and see,
Check-in was welcoming, easy and quick with a complimentary drink voucher.

My room was spacious and the balcony overlooked the garden and part of the pool. The grounds are well kept and clean.
The bed was great and comfortable and I slept well.
Used the laundry service which was very quick.

The hotel has a range of facilities; I used the pool, and the spa which has a range of massage services. There is also gym which is well equipped.
There is also a casino, but this was closed, I think as it is seasonal, but there is also a cinema.

The Location is great in my opinion because it is not surrounded by other hotels so a little exclusive but very green surroundings in its own location.
It is not in town, but it is a short taxi ride or you can use the hotel shuttle service to Punta town where there are many of restaurants and a strip of bars and clubs along the marina.

The beach is less than a 10 minute walk from the hotel grounds, and you will see the beach club which is connected with the hotel..great to chill and relax from being on the beach and enjoy a few drinks and snacks.

There are two restaurants available in the evening, Geegees bar is great for a few drinks before you head out to town, good selection of food and drinks and good service from the staff -very accommodating if you have a particular food request.
Had the lobster starter which was good portion. Good selection of wines.

Free internet office and WiFi available with good signal in room.

Breakfast is a good standard with lots of choice.

Overall, during my stay the hotel was clean and pleasant with friendly staff.
If I visit Punta again, I would stay here.

Room Tip: I stay on the 2nd floor which has a nice view overlooking the garden and scenery beyond the hotel.

We stayed at the Mantra resort for four days. Important to notice, this is a in-room smoking hotel as we were not told so at the time of booking.
The rooms are well appointed and the grounds well kept. It is not a five star hotel by western standards, maybe four.
The hotel is about 20 minutes east from Punta del este and you MUST have a rental car otherwise you will pay unreal amounts for taxi. We had a rental car and would rather be in La Berra and not at Punta Del Este as we like the area and drove to town when we felt like it.

The first day we had a quick lunch by the pool - two small pizzas, two sandwiches and three drinks for $161 US dollars!!! Crazy. The beer was the most expensive beer we ever had, and we traveled around the globe.

The staff is very nice. If you need anything done ask for Mauricio at the front desk who speaks English well.

Breakfast was included and was ok. Don't expect the servers to rush, but they were fine.
The free internet connection is so slow, it reminded us the dial up connection back in the days.
We paid for our rooms over $300 US dollars per night and expected more.

All. Hotels at peak are really expensive and this is no exception.

Very nice large rooms, good breakfast, excellent pool, spa and gym facilities. Also tennis courts, baby club etc. Casino and convention centre. Beach club nearby with top restaurant and and full beach facilities. Valet parking.

It looks like a. 5 star hotel but there are signs of lack of maintenance that for European standards would mean a 4 star. Good position about 400 m from the sea and about 800 m from the edge of La Barra, plenty of bars and restaurants, shops etc.

Very expensive at peak Xmas and early January, but same as other hotels.

Well worth a visit though, very hip customers and trendy young models etc.

Room Tip: Third floor facing the sea with balcony.

Mantra is nice, has a good infra, good pool, good service and good restaurant, but I would not consider it as a 5 star Resort, at least don't worth the expensive rate room.
Your outside view needs a maintenance but inside the hotel is very good.
The water of the swimming pool is too much warm.
Hotel staff is very cordial and well educated.
The location is good but you MUST have a rented car to be able to visit the Punta del Este city or Jose Ignacio beach (the best of the area around) or even go to the beach. The hotel has a beach club with transportation service included but it is the only choice withount a car.
Be prepared to pay everything very expensive in Punta del Este, La Barra or Jose Ignácio.

First, some advice about the Punta del Este/La Barra/Jose Ignacio area in general. It is super expensive, so be prepared, and don't go if you aren't prepared to spend 2 to 3 times for food and hotels as you would at upscale Caribbean resorts. To put it in perspective, St. Barts is often cheaper than this area, and St Barts offers much better hotels and restaurants.
That said, Mantra Resort is very nice, with an accommodating staff, nice lobby bar (service slow here), well-appointed rooms (we stayed in a one bedroom suite with a large veranda, super nice), best pool area in Punta del Este, excellent gym with indoor pool, good spa, and a separate beach club that rocks in season. Be aware that the hotel is not on the beach, and not really that close, it's a long walk, or short car ride. And for sure, you MUST rent a car for a trip to this area, and to this hotel, or you won't be able to enjoy getting around. Taxis are not convenient and very expensive. One of the bell staff proved to be a great guy, and gave us many good recommendations for restaurants, including Lo de Tere, which was the best seafood we ate in Punta...but also try Lo de Charlie for lunch. If you don't speak Spanish you can get by, but you'll learn a lot more and get more inside info if you can speak Spanish. USD are accepted everywhere, as are AR pesos and Brazilian Reales, so you don't have to exchange anything for local currency unless you want to (you will receive change in local currency when paying in foreign currency). Does help to have some small Uruguay currency for toll roads if you drive up north to La Paloma or La Pedrera or Punta Diablo. This is a great drive, beautiful ocean scenery, old lighthouses, and you can spend the day at various white sand beaches plus have lunch along the way.
So Mantra is a good base, very nice, but you're paying top dollar, what you would pay in St. Barts, or more, for an experience that is less than that.
