Set in the valley it has beautiful views out the back in the beer garden of the hills, amazing at sunset. The food itself was delicious I had a very nice fish pot followed by a sort of brownie/ice cream cake with what we thought was a quince on top. It was a very imaginative menu when you expect just 'pub grub' but it was delicious. I would have enjoyed having some music on in the background, but that's a personal taste as I don't like overhearing other people's loud conversations!

This is the place to enjoy excellent food and drink in an Olde World Inn with atmosphere in abundance. The staff are all friendly and very helpful with the menu changing regularly. If you want a real Sunday Lunch this is the place with locally sourced meat and vegetables and try the Lemon Posset or Meringue to finish. You will not be disappointed.

Can there be any better place to enjoy a Sunday roast than this perfect proper pub in the beautiful Wye Valley? Just a stone's throw into Wales, so enjoy a lovely pint of Butty Bach to wash down that very reasonably priced lunch. Excellent, friendly service to boot.

Called in here late on Sunday for a roast lunch and made welcome despite being close to the lunch session ending. Locally sourced roast beef was good and the bonus was the freshly roasted vegetables which were very tasty. A good hearty lunch. Finished with some nice desserts inc very tasty ice cream. A very good value £15 head inc drinks.

The food and service here easily excel anything to be found in Hay. The cooking is better and
also represents far greater value for money, making the short drive well worth it. Percy, behind the bar and general manager, is very hospitable and obviously cares about his customers. We went for two evenings. Our mains were very tasty and the desserts, so often a disappointment, were also great. If the chocolate and almond cake or the almond and honey cheesecake are on, try them ! Two very pleasant rooms and a relaxed atmosphere. Prices are reasonable for quality food and you feel the place has the interests of its customers in mind, far more so than in Hay.The only slight quibble would be that the white wines sold by the glass could be slightly better. But highly recommended and advisable to book in advance for busier times.
