I had never been before, my wife had an evening meal there a couple of weeks earlier & it was on her advice that we took some friends for lunch. I was very impressed with everything, from the warm welcome, good friendly service, nice food, & the immaculate clean toilets. The bill came to £60.00 for 4 people that included food, drinks, coffee; I thought it very good value. Will I return? The next time we go out for a meal, that’s where we are going

After a visit to Buckingham - nice river walks & museum but restaurants did not appeal, we made our way home and passed by chance The Pickled Ploughman, just in time for lunch.

The Pub has had a serious make-over since I last visited over 40 years ago. The new decor was very much to the taste of my wife and I. There is a very nice restaurant area, a separate but adjoining bar area with four real ales on show, and tables outside at the rear of the pub.

We were warmly welcomed and quickly shown to a table in the restaurant. Given the circumstances it was a bit of a 'gobble and go' but it proved very good indeed. We chose the prix fixe menu which at £10.95 for two courses was remarkable value.

My wife began with Rustic breads for one with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was pronounced good and it looked it. I began with Bubble and squeak with a poached egg, pancetta and hollandaise sauce. It was well done and very satisfying.

For mains we both enjoyed Honey roast ham, free range egg and chips. A nice sizeable piece of ham, although it not unreasonably the quality reflected the price paid. The egg was done to perfection and the chips very good indeed.

This was washed down with a bottle of French Merlot Mourverdre, ‘Les Oliviers’, which at £15.95 was very good value. We finished with coffee.

Overall the pub has been attractively restored, the service is good and the food of good quality. It was also busy which reflects well upon it and next time we are in the area we will visit again and more likely have a more leisurely lunch. Well done to the Pickled Ploughman.

Went here recently with two friends. The food was lovely and plentiful and the atmosphere great, but we all thought that £3.40 for a pint of coke (which was 20p dearer than a pint of beer) was taking the Mickey. It doesn't encourage people who drive to drink there. Probably won't go there again because of the high soft drink prices. A great pity!

Three of four traditional ales were available. The restaurant was quite busy, but we chose to sit by the (real) log fire in the bar area. A varied menu was available, with prices and meal sizes to suit all. There were also several specials on offer. I had the steak and ale pie with seasonal vegetables (mange touts, carrots, and green beans) and mashed potato. Excellent - presentation, taste and price. Service was friendly and efficient. The sharing dessert is a great idea - you can choose any four frrom the menu.
