My wife and I just returned from 5 nights at Lacassagne. What a stay. The best stay I have had at a B+B ever. Maider and Denise were the most delightful, charming hosts, who really made us feel right at home. It was like coming home to Mama.
We opted for dinner the first night we arrived, which was the right choice. Maider is a fabulous cook, sensitive to the regions cuisine, with out going over the top. She is a real foodie and and as such it really shows in her choice of tasteful delights she has to offer. After getting stuffed with local duck, wine, and other ingredients, we made our way to the bedroom...
This charming offering is tasteful, immaculate, and light hearted. Maider is a dog lover, and therefore pays homage to the species in the decor but in a thought through way. The Linens were a joy to nestle up in and quite frankly the bed was hard to leave once wrapped up. Bathrooms were equally to taste and very clean. Very Peaceful place.
The following morning we awoke to a full Gascony breakfast which had fresh baked treats, and the usual continental aspects. Eggs were cooked to ones preference, and George Clooney was making the coffee. (Nesspresso) Also countless homemade jams to choose from. A real treat.
Once finished with breakfast you have the option to hang out on the grounds which are lovely, or walk up to the village Larressingle. This town is amazing, and charming. Its a fun place to visit for sure.
Maider your host has been apart of the area for generations, and as such knows the area and knows both wine and Armagnac, having the famous Larressingle Armagnac as part of her family heritage. There is always some about if you fancy a glass. Maider is truly like a cool auntie that you visit from time to time with great taste in food, and culture. As she speaks at least Three languages, French (obviously), English, and Spanish. So all and all she is as good as they get in terms of hosts.
Highly recommend getting to know Bobby, the local Jack Russell. He is great fun if your a dog lover and is a great buddy during your stay. He is likely to beg no and again for food, but he is a delightful beggar. But stubborn as a mule. Both Maider and Bobby will have you in stitches, and if your lucky enough to stay at the weekend you will most likely meet Denise, who is an absolute comedian. Her wit, and sense of humour make the whole stay seem like a dream that you don't want to wake up from. And with too much of the Armagnac it is quite possible that the dream could last forever.
My favourite place in the Gers, so may see you there when we go back.
