“Don't hesitate, just book!”
Reviewed 15 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed at St George's Retreat for 9 days at the beginning of June. What a fabulous place and location - the views from the stylish villas are just breathtaking. The villas themselves are clean, well equipped and the decor is really tasteful - just perfect. We had a fabulous break - even though the weather let us down on the last couple of days. There are 2 pools and a children's play area, an outdoor oven and bbq - perfect for families or like us just a couple seeking a bit of a relaxing break. We had a car that the owners organised for us to pick up from the airport and whizzed about all over Western Crete - we visited Falasma beach - west of Kissamos, worth the drive, and Preveli beach right on the south coast - at the end of the mountain road you take a unmade track down through the gorge for 5km - fine, just! in our fiat panda! Then you reach a car park and lovely taverna, then walk over the headland - no hand rails, not suitable for children I would say - to reach the beach and lovely freshwater river inlet . Marathi beach just lovely - great lunch -at the beach taverna there ( I know I go on about the food but it's an important part of any holiday to us!). Would have loved to visit Elafonosi beach and also Balos ( by boat from Kissamos) but no time and weather not the best - next time! Hania is definitely worth a visit and exploring the little back streets was lovely - great lunch ! The owners of St George's are very lovely - Stephanos and Roula - they welcomed us on arrival and showed us round the lovely villa - they had even filled the fridge with eggs, beer, cheese etc which was great as we arrived late in the evening. Roula made us delicious moussaka one day and chocolate cake! Do take advice from Stephanos on where to eat out - we had some fabulous meals(!) and you don't need to pay much for an evening out - 25 euros for a meal including wine etc for two of us most nights!! The zucchini balls at Harokopos in Plaka were the highlight for me! - this is really a great little eating place. I could go on... but if you are looking for somewhere special to stay in this stunning part of the world don't hesitate, just book!

“We had the most amazing experience at Retreat Village with our Women's Retreat!”

We just returned from 8 glorious days at Retreat Village where we booked all 9 villas for our women's retreat. The owners and hosts, Stefanos and Roula, went above and beyond our expectations ... creating the perfect abode for a group retreat experience. The villas are gorgeous, each one surrounded by the most amazing beauty of flowering bushes, fruit trees, and beautifully laid out paths to get to the pool and common space. After a long day of travel, we arrived to our villas, complete with fridge filled with fruit from their trees, yogurt, water, breakfast food, cakes and all that you need for coffee/tea. Roula made delicious treats everyday for our group of women and Stefanos made sure we had everything that we needed. The view of Souda bay is breathtaking and the small town of Kokino Chorio is just a kilometer down the hill where you can find lovely tavernas, a glass artisan store, and a market. There is a lovely taverna just a short walk up the hill which serves delicious dinners and was also very accommodating to our retreat. Waking up each morning to the bells of the goats and sheep nearby was music to our ears! Villas are beautiful inside and out, very clean, and fully equipped with washing machine, coffee makers, etc. A perfect abode for a a romantic honeymoon ... to an extended family reunion.

“Quiet, Peaceful and very Friendly Stay”
Reviewed 24 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

Owner and villa was very welcoming! The house is beautiful, we felt like home the entire time! Very clean also and very cute and peaceful area. We had a great time, many things to discover on the island and all the small villages around the Villa. The Host was very nice to us and gave us a lot of tips, we thank him so much for an amazing stay at his place. Wine and flowers were waiting for us when we got there, beautiful fireplace inside the house and big balcony to have breakfast. The view was also breathtaking! We didn't get the chance to use the pool but it looked very well taking care. Easy access to the big city of Hania by car! In total we are very happy for going there and had a stay at the retreat!

“Exactly what we hoped for.”

We stayed in Thalia from 11th to 25th Sept 2012. Our plan was to spend half the time chilling out around the pool and villa, enjoying what looked superb surroundings, half touring Crete, especially the historic sites, which was a long term ambition.
Crete was special. We are already planning trips 2 and 3 to see things we missed - and to spend more time on those beaches. Elafonisi in the SW is to die for, more Indian Ocean than Med. The history we barely touched, everywhere you look a 'must do' ancient site.
The villa and site were perfect for us, space enough to get privacy when you needed it and the layout of the pools good for catching up with the neighbours. The taverna church and cave system also add some local interest. We hired a car for the fortnight and you do need it to make the best of the holiday.
Stefanos and Roula were the perfect hosts (hope your knee is better), we virtually followed their recommendations for places to see, swim, eat and drink - lovely welcoming people.

“Best family holiday yet!”

We have just returned from St George's Retreat having had a fantastic two weeks. Echoing all the other comments, Stefanos and Roula made a great holiday a fantastic one. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel at home from the moment we arrived, and little things such as turning up unexpectedly with delicious pastries and treats, made it a very special stay. They hosted two big BBQs while we were there and provided all the food which was incredibly generous. The accommodation was excellent and the views across the bay from Erato were spectacular. Our two young girls loved making friends with the other guests and spent many happy hours jumping in and out of the pools. The addition of a small 'baby' pool was a real bonus and meant that our youngest could splash around quite happily without us having to accompany her all the time. The beaches are beautiful with crystal clear water and very safe for young children. All in all, I couldn't recommend it highly enough and we're already talking about a return visit next year.
