“Living like in a painting for a while.”
Reviewed 25 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Ravdoucha is one the tiny villages spotted on the hills of the almost uninhabited Spatha peninsula , the wild and beautiful land separating Chania bay from Kissamos bay.
One may not go there by chance, but wandering along the narrow and steep roads among olive trees and lonely houses - with their vegetable gardens, hens and goats - can be magic.
No shops, no crowd, no mess, just the thinner air of the heights, and the sea shattering rocky beaches and the coast.
Ravdoucha has two beaches , where the road ends. A smaller one with a pier delimiting a quieter piece of crystalline water , and the wider rockier one with studio apartments ( and a whole large stretch of sea weeds and far less friendly sea at the time of my visit). Epavlis villas are on the road ending at such beaches, exactly overlooking the small one and sight embracing the whole Kissamos bay.
Their structure is at the same time of amazing architectural elegance and simplicity. They are made basically of three parallel solid walls among which beams support a light wooden building on three floors, with three terraces and two further sunbed platforms at the pool level.
The facility is so well conceived to allow proper air circulation - so that air conditioning might be unnecessary at all times - and offers shadow areas anytime.
The house is fully equipped with everything needed. Technical equipment is more than complete , with even excessive presence of TV sets and DVD players. Just barely noteworthy is the small capacity of the dishwasher. Furniture is rather simple, but - while no luxury brands are found - every single detail expresses an exquisite taste so that the whole thing is very welcoming.
Light is an essential part of the interior architecture and the way it interacts with the wall paintings and the colored glass is simply astonishing.
A wall carpet, recalling the colors of a thracian Sarkoy kilim, greatly contributes to the ensemble harmony.
The floorboard makes walking barefoot very comfortable, although quite audible underneath.
The bedrooms somehow look like ship cabins and linen are quite cheap, but beds are comfortable and there's really no need to stay there when not sleeping.
Some places or details - like the cupboard tops, some corners or the bunch of electrical cables, might have been better dusted, but overall the house was well kept.
Bathrooms are clean, spacious and well equipped with plenty of towels.
The pool is about 15 meters long and allows two person swimming back and forth freely at the same time.
It is not heated, so that the water temperature is highly dependent on outside and may be a bit unpleasant.
Laying in the living room or the terraces/platforms with a good book, or just Immersing into the landscape, is a highly rewarding and regenerating experience.
Watching the sun sculpting the details of the walls and objects , the depth of the shadows on even the simplest ones, like pebbles elegantly arranged on a window, remembered me a painting of Hopper, or later Larraz. The feeling of being inside it rather than watching was peculiar.
Food shopping can conveniently be made at Kolymbari, rather than Kissamos, not only more expensive, but where I experienced for the first time in my life (at Agora market, M. Stimadorakis) exchange refusal of a corked bottle of otherwise good Cretan wine (although less rewarding than rounder products from the Tessaloniki region).
Falasarna beach is at about 30 minutes drive distance and, needless to say, it is extraordinary , although it may be very crowded and very windy.
Ravdoucha beach is surely worth visiting for sea swimming, maybe less for a whole day spending.
A charming minuscule church in the rock is on the way to the second beach.
The extreme northern part of the peninsula toward Agios Pavlos beach and the preceding hills and valley are simply breathtaking, like most of the landscapes around.
However, Epavlis villas are basically self-sufficient, meaning that just staying there may be rewarding and relaxing enough not to wish going anywhere else.
Many annoying biting mosquitoes were an actual issue, while traffic on the dead-end road to the beaches and private parties potentially are (one at the beach lasted until 4 a.m. on a Friday night).

“Paradise, an escape from reality and stunning views of the bay.”
Reviewed 5 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Our second stay here and it was amazing. Mr Manousakis is a perfect host and wants you to relax and enjoy this small piece Creten heaven. The architecture is awesome, everywhere you look there is an amazing view. The infinity pool, the outside kitchen and decking area, the two balconies provide places to relax, read, eat and watch the sunset. Taverna, Wave on the rocks is great, fresh fish and delicious cold beer under a shaded terrace off the beach. The best bit is the silence, swallows dipping and diving over the pool and the sunsets...... Magical.

“Simply Stunning”
Reviewed 18 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

The pictures barely do the place justice. Enough off the beaten path to be exclusive and a close enough drive to reach the major attractions around the island.

Nico was a superb host and couldn't do more to help us have a fantastic week, even delivering us the odd local delicacy as a treat. Nothing seemed too much trouble for him.

With multiple terraces, a jacuzzi and the pool you barely need to leave. I would highly recommend the villa to absolutely anyone. The only advice is that you certainly need a car.

No words to describe this place. if you like traveling to the best properties around the world and your holiday brings you to Greece then certainly don't miss this property. Breathtaking view, quiet, comfortable and relaxing. A spectacular villa with an outstanding interior. Great location, very close to famous beaches and some great tavernas. Last but not least, we have experienced the greatest hospitality ever by the owner, Mr. Manousakis all throughout our stay.

“outstanding in every way”
Reviewed 7 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Architecturally stunning with cathedral like space flowing into outdoor decks with panoramic views. Great interior styling right down to Alessi fruitbowl! Location couldn't be better just 10 min away from small local beaches and 2 great tavernas. More excellent restaurants a little further afield and lovely Chania only about an hour away. We went with plans to explore but ended up spending 2 weeks relaxing at villa with occasional forays to swim with the fishes before a lazy lunch. Nice little extras like a well stocked medicine cabinet. Fantastic pool long enough to swim in properly. Nikos the owner is a delightful man and a superb host. Communication with him and the manager was excellent before we arrived. This will be a very hard one to beat!

“Breathtaking views and outstanding service!”
Reviewed 26 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We had a wonderful holiday at Villa Eleni. The villa itself is absolutely stunning, the architecture and design really taking advantage of the beautiful sea views. The pool, balconies and terraces, so well laid out. As well, Nikos, the owner was so kind and friendly, we looked forward to seeing him when we could. He tried to make our stay problem-free and was so quick to answer any questions we had. We highly recommend this villa to anyone thinking of going to Greece and getting away from it all. Thank you so much Nikos! We will be back!

“Beautiful house and view”
Reviewed 29 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Villa Eleni is a spectacular villa. We found it to be very comfortable and relaxing. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor spaces; there are four individual terrace/patio areas where you can eat, drink, relax, take a swim or enjoy the sunset. Inside, everything is very well laid out, convenient and high quality (including the soap/toiletries provided). Having a piano was a real bonus. It is a short drive from a small beach and a couple of fish tavernas. We visited the Waves on the Rocks taverna a few times and it was very good. For dinners we usually prepared something simple at home in order to take advantage of the sunset views looking out across the water towards the Gravmousa peninsula. The owner was very helpful and nice. We are looking forward to another trip hopefully next year. Also, we loved the swimming, hiking, food and culture of Crete.
