“overpriced instant coffee and no tap water for thirsty cyclists.”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

This cafe was the worst I've been to. We were in the middle of a long bike ride and wanted refreshment, but was rudely told we were not allowed tap water. When I asked why not, I received a curt reply 'Because we don't'. The coffee cups were tiny so we left thirsty. Granted she conceded to fill our water bottles. The toasted teacake was average but nothing special.
The place was tatty, and in need of a good clean. The carpet was dirty, with dog hairs, and the whole place needs a good refurbishment.
I would never go back there and would highly recommend people not to visit. The menu was boring and overpriced for what it was. Such a shame in such a beautiful location, this cafe could be amazing with the right menu, decor, approach and quality of service.

“omg-they might want tap water!!”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

looked like a nice, quaint place to get refreshments after a walk - but take heed - don't dare to ask for tap water. You are advised about this several times on the menu in red print. For God sake. When people have been walking, cycling etc. water is a much needed refreshment and thirst quenched, it makes the food more enjoyable. In fact I think it makes it more likely that you will order more. Providing bottled water in plastic bottles is hardly environmentally friendly for dales folk - surely? Waiting staff are efficient but miserable - perhaps wary of being asked for water! Food is quite pricey too. My advice would be not to bother going there.

“quite and quaint”

In February this was the only café open in the village of Kettlewell. The owner was very welcoming and we enjoyed a good cup of tea on a wild wet day

“Dated and disinterested”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

Just popped in for coffee on a very wet day.
Very dated offers on the menu and disinterested service. The whole place needs a good clean and fresh lick of paint. Wouldn't go back.

“Don't bother - they didn't!”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

Went here for a drink mid afternoon. When you read the menu and printed in red it states "We don't provide tap water," it can be off putting. However, when the waitress came to serve us, she reiterated the tone - she did the basics but no more. Granted we only wanted two filter coffees and a diet coke (£1.80 for less than half a pint, petrol would have been cheaper). This was indicative of the service, so much so, when we met a group of walkers looking for somewhere to have a drink we told them not to go there!

Wonder why they are not listed under the food category?
