I felt almost spoiled, the service is perfect, you feel free but if something is needed ... voilá! It's hard not to be surrendered to the landscape, the location is superb. The Douro river valley is highly valued with projects of this kind. Congratulations to the owners who built such a friendly and beautiful place.

Room Tip: all the rooms are diferent, all good in my opinion, try the first house.

We loved this place with direct access to the Douro River. The appartment had a great view on the river with a cosy, natural but modern design and is fully equipped with everything you need. The owner was very friendly, helpful and generous (he took us spontaniously on a boat trip which was great fun!) The perfect place to unwind and relax. You are in the middle of the Douro region if you want to do day trips - the staff provides you with all the information you need. No matter if you go there as a family, with friends or as couple - you will have a great time! We definitely loved it and will come back!!!

Me, my husband and sons and friends have stayed last weekend at Casas de Pousadouro and what we can say is that it was perfect, excelent, we were offered a great moment that we will never forget! The place and its surroundings, the houses facing the river, everything there is fantastic, well managed and very pleasant. Casas de Pousadouro offers you a lot of interesting things to do, like just enjoying the quitness and silence of the resort, resting in such a unique destination, have a wonderful moment driving kayakes in the river, do a trip on the owners boat along Douro River, enjoy the swimmingpool....! The owners are so nice and helpful that you miss that moments!
The employee is simpatic and generous, Adelaide, that provided us an excelent breakfast with warm bread, freshly squeezed orange juice, yogurt among others delicious things.
I would like to return and recommend such wonderful place to stay.
A remarkable and memorable destination

The best hotel in the world! It's FANTASTIC! You have to visit! I went with friends and I LOVE IT! Casas de Pousadouro have kayakes, boats, golf (25 km), etc! The owners are super simpatic! One of the owner can travelling with you in the river. Normally, he give a surprise. The houses are super confortable and spacious. The employers are simpatic and generous. If you like to rest and ''hear'' the silence you must go there! You can go to a walk on bicycles. It's better if you go by the information of the owners than if you go by GPS. The kayakes and the boat are free.

It's wonderful!!!

We have just returned from a wonderful 5 nights staying in Casa da Rocha. For much of the time we were the only guests so had the pool etc to ourselves. Even when there were other guests we were completely unaware of them. The area is just stunning and we came across very few other tourists during our trip.

The house was well appointed and although there is no oven the microwave does have a grill and there is a hob. If, like us, you like to cook while you are on holiday you may want to take your own knives, as there is only one small knife provided but you will find everything else you need there.

Breakfast was delivered by Adelaide each morning at the time agreed and was the perfect start to the day, warm bread, freshly squeezed orange juice, yogurt etc.

We loved the area and met some truly wonderful people, Mr Fonseca at Restaurant Primabera in Baiao really became a friend and we look forward to drinking the bottle of wine he gave us on Christmas eve. You must visit Primabera for some traditional home cooked food, his lamb cooked in the wood fired oven is only available on Sundays and is infamous.

We enjoyed exploring the area and took trips to Regua and Pinhoa as well as spending a day by the pool and paddling on the river in the kayaks.

The four properties can be rented all together which would make a great holiday for a big family with everyone getting some of there own space.

A couple of things to note.
The house we stayed would not be suitable for the elderly or disabled person the stairs are steep without any handrail and the bathroom is very small, the property is not suitable for young children either.
Also the train line runs very close to the property and although there are few trains, and we soon got used to them, when the first one went past early on our first morning we were both woken up and wondered what on earth was going on!

I would have no hesitation recommending Casas Pousadouro and we will return is we ever have the opportunity to go back to the Douro.

Room Tip: A great base for exporling both the 'vinho verde' and 'port' regions of the Douro

We stayed three nights there, we had the Casa do Piloto, we were 6 pax and there was plenty of space as the house is huge. Also very well decorated. 2 fridges, air conditioning, 3 rooms... Perfect! This place is next to river, beautiful scenery. Very friendly people, Adelaide was very nice with us. You can take a boat at the rail station (10 min walking distance) and for 1€/person they make you cross the river. In the other side: a few snack-bars, 2 good and typical restaurant, also thermal baths.
Definitely a very nice place to discover the "DOURO VERDE" (the Douro Verde is the western part of the Douro region, a kind of region of transition between those wine areas: the Vinho Verde and the Douro. Not so hot than the upper Douro, different in the landscapes and vegetation).

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
At the gates of the Douro Valley, between the mountains of Marao and Montemuro and the edge of a small arm of the river, Casas de Pousadouro is a small gathering of rural houses whose set exudes the soul of a small village. Here, the Douro is so much more than just one of the finest wine-growing regions in the world. The landscape is dominated by water mirrors shrouded on the relaxed green of the slopes and the disperse housing that gives to this view a human element. Fusing harmoniously the traditional architecture with the contemporary interiors, the cottages offer large windows that enhance the connection with nature, a sophisticated mix of rustic, classic with modern. A secret hideout, where body and mind come together to find a serene balance and pure inspiration. ... more   less
