“Absolute awe and amazement!”
Reviewed 1 December 2011

What a beautiful spot! We were picked up in an air conditioned van provided by the resort. I had no idea what to expect. After a brief drive through town of Masatepe, we hit the dirt road that leads to this beautiful resort. Do not be intimidated by this! It's part of the charm. When we pulled up to the resort, my jaw fell. What a view! I took a deep breathe and it was as if the weight of the world had lifted. That's the effect being there has on me!

We were served delicious food which included local fare such as Nacatemal. The pool was relaxing and it helped to have an awesome bartender. Thanks Luis!

Did I mention the hammocks? You could easily solve the worlds problems from one them!

If you are looking for a tranquil, awe inspiring getaway in Nicaragua, I HIGHLY recommend this resort WITHOUT any reservations.

Overlooking an active volcano and paradisiac lagoon, you realize the name of this hotel is totally fitting and rightfully accurate. Upon arrival you feel an immediate connection to the heavenly surroundings and the tranquility of this special location.
The friendly staff caters to your every desire making you feel very much at home. The freshly prepared dishes are a delightful example of the delicious Nicaraguan cuisine. I loved the unique rustic design of the spacious rooms, the lovely pool and lounging areas. I only regret staying 3 days at this wonderful place, but I am looking forward to returning next year for at least a week.

We spent a few days being pampered at the Hacienda Puerta del Cielo during the "green season". Nicaragua is a fascinating country, but it does not seem to be established among Americans the way its southern sister, Costa Rica, is. The Hacienda is located outside the town of Masatepe in the vicinity of the Masaya volcano and town. The location is rustic at the end of a dirt road. But once you arrive, the place is very welcoming. The casitas are private and very practical. They are spotless and generous in size. There is air-conditioning to combat the humidity and heat, but there are also some wonderful breezes that "take the edge" off the tropical humidity. The service at the resort is fantastic. Although it would have been enough to loll in the pool and read in the privacy of a wonderful resort, it was made even more lovely by the outstanding care that was lavished on us. Food was fresh and interesting and beautifully prepared. The variety was great and we got a chance to sample new fruits and vegetables indigenous to the area. One of us is a vegetarian and the other a meat lover and both got excellent cuisine. There are walking trails in the rainforest, and there are some nearby attractions that make this a tempting destination. It would also be easy to combine this hotel with a trip to Granada that is less than an hour away. Finally the pool is extremely comfortable and sited so that it has a great view of the mountains and lake. You can even see smoke emerge from the volcano from your comfortable poolside perch.

Room Tip: All rooms are private except for a few in the "main building" But the longest walk from th...

The romantic vision of two brothers from Nicaragua, the hotel's stunning location is breathtaking. From the elegantly rustic open air dining rooms, lounges and pool, you look straight across to the volcano and lake with a expansive vista. Don't be intimidated by the adventurous road leading to the hotel--it is passable. Once you are there, the hospitality is wonderful--warm and personal, very eager to please with detailed help on trips to take and what you would like to eat. The hosts are extremely personable and delightful to spend time talking to and very generous. Luis' special chicken was extraordinary and breakfast a feast of fruit and yogurt and local egg specialty. The casitas have very comfortable beds, lovely simple furnishings and pretty individualized murals. You can open the screened french doors and run the fan and the breeze makes the sleeping tropical but very comfortable. This is just a heavenly, nature friendly and elegant retreat from the world.

I stayed here 1 week in August.

Wake up, literally, at this “gateway to heaven” (the meaning of “Puerta Del Cielo”) in this paradisiacal place in communion with nature. Let the staff pamper you all day long; have three (or more) glorious meals a day and have any cocktail or drink you crave prepared by skilled hands. Or take a day trip to a location full of history or natural beauty in this recently discovered international tourist destination: Nicaragua, the safest country in Central America. Come before in overrun by the tourist avalanche.

Admire this creative rustic architecture of the giant huts designed by famous award-winning naval architect Juan Carlos Espinosa ( www.espinosainc.com) dotted by dozens of colorful murals adorning the facilities and depicting scenes from local folklore and legends. Have a massage, or sauna, or manicure or pedicure anytime you crave.

The rooms are large and exquisitely furnitured with local woods and materials, its walls adorned by the signature murals by the same remarkable painter. You can relax in the hammocks in your room private deck while the sun sets by the fuming volcano among a concert of singing birds.

The location is breathtaking: Green everywhere…the Masaya Lagoon (a lake in fact) is at your feet 200 meters down a cliff. Above, to your left, the impressive Santiago Volcano expelles smoke from its enormous caldera. In between you have dozens of square miles of secondary forest encompassing the Parque Nacional Volcan Masaya created 35 years ago, and populated by numerous animals including large cats, mammals and hundred of bird species.

In addition to visiting this National Park, you can have an easy stroll down to the shores of the Masaya lagoon; you can also trek in the forest. Recently a canopy and rappel adventure opened nearby (1 mile away) for the adrenaline junkies with drops down to 100 meters. You can also get daily trips to the major tourist cities of Masaya and colonial Granada, founded by Spaniard conquistador Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba in 1524. Here you can see colonial architecture in churches, mansions, museums.

Granada is at the shores of the huge 8,000 sq. kms sweet water Lake Cocibolca. Don’t miss taking THE ULTIMATE boat tour and admire the lush vegetation covering hundreds of tiny, paradisiacal islands. This lake is so big that the Spaniard Conquistadors thought it was the ocean. They only realized their mistake when they saw one of their horses drink its water.

You can also go to one of the many tropical beaches less than 1 hour away from the hotel and spend your day swimming, sun tanning and enjoying glorious seafood. All for a fraction of what you’d pay at home.

Luis Alberto, the manager will be more than happy to take you anywhere you want to go in the hotels new, air conditioned van.

Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy this boutique hotel, a once in a lifetime experience, like no other.

Room Tip: Any room has a breathtaking view
