Can't understand the reviews about so-so food in nice surroundings. Probably just tried wrong dish. We went there on a rainy evening, didn't see much of surroundings but, the garlic trout was the best springwater fish I have ever had in my life.

A great out of the way spot - after a relaxing walk, you happen across a beautiful deep dark lake with a fascinating history (nazi treasures, 1950 movies). It's a charming location. Although the food and ambiance(the restaurant's) is just so-so, its prime location is worth it!

The "Fischerhütte" (Fishermans hut) is a typical Austrian restaurant with unpretentious food from the region. The restaurant's specialty is freshwater fish - trouts and char - from the lakes/creeks nearby.

The restaurant is located at the Toplitzsee (Lake Toplitz) which is accessible only on foot within a 15 minutes walk from the top end of Grundlsee over a walking path. The Toplitzsee is full of myths and speculation of a sunken and never found treasure. This kind of mystical atmosphere which is being intensified by the beautiful nature makes every visit special. Next to the restaurant you also find an information bourd about all the myths about the area...

The menu is very much focused on fish but you also get other typical Austrian dishes. We were 4 people - 3 had fish (trout and char),one had Polenta with cheese. We were all very satisfied with the quality and the taste of the food.

The Fisherman's hut serves good Austrian wines. The have a nice variety including wines from all Austrian wine regions.

The service was very nice with a smile in their face and payed attention during the whole evening.

The prices for the dishes are upper average, around 10-12 Euros for a dish, 16-20 Euros for fish. If you spend an evening with your partner and have a small starter, main course, a small desert to share with drinks expect to pay between 60 and 70 Euros.

Not to forget: The menu is available in English and French!

I would recommend to make a reservation during high season in the weekends - esp. in the evenings. Don't plan to come after 20.00 as the kitchen will be closed then...

The walk back to your car is not only a good possibility to digest it is also a nice opportunity to discuss the mystical stories about the lake...

One of the great pleasures of walking in this region is being able to combine a gentle walk by the lake or through the forest with a glass of wine and great food at a traditional Austrian restaurant. The fischerhutte is in a beautiful location, well away from any cars or traffic. The fish comes from a nearby lake and is expertly prepared for a great midday meal.

Delicious trout from the lake - and plenty of other choices. Very popular and worth the walk. We took the 3 lakes boat trip and had lunch here on the way.
