Just got back from the reef resort over Easter week.
RESORT: The one bedroom was very clean, and well stocked with supplies. We bought breakfast and lunch food at Foster's across the street and It has all the basics you would need. Prices weren't too bad considering how expensive it is to eat out!!! We had a 1st floor room which was amazing, open the door and you are on the beach!!! We snorkeled right outside our room and saw a lot of great stuff. Talk to the people at white sands on the resort and they will tell you where the best snorkeling is if you are unsure, but pretty much everywhere is great. It does get a bit cloudy though when it is windy. The space between the two piers is the best I think. My family (husband and 10 year old) loved being on the east end where there are no annoying lines or crowds. Always a beach chair available, on the beach or at the pool no matter what time, wonderful! Bar Restaurant was good and outside, very nice. The staff are friendly. I would definitely go back to the Reef.
DIVING: My daughter and I did our open water cert. dives with Ocean Frontiers, 6 minutes away. This is the BEST DIVE OP!!!!!!! Knowledgeable, friendly. If you wanted a guide, great, if not, that is fine too. Equipment was in excellent shape. Divers of all levels will have a great time. Plus they have an amazing photographer with you under water! You can order the pics online and they were AMAZING!!
TRIPS: STINRAY SAND BAR with Redsail at rum point. 20 minute drive to rum point and a GREAT trip!!! Friendly staff on boat, got to see and touch the stingrays and our captain showed us an eel and spiny lobster. A must do. The outside restaurant had good food at good prices! We layed in the hammocks after and had a great time. Drove to GEORGETOWN, about an hour. Pretty touristy area with a lot of shops, that's it. But we went to the TURTLE FARM and was amazed by all there is to do there. You can pick up the turtles, snorkel in a lagoon, swim in a fresh water pool. The pool had a large slide which my daughter loved while my husband and I relaxed on chairs, again, NO CROWDS!!!
RESATURANTS: We went to over the edge, about 10 mins from The Reef, great conch fritters and great blackened fish. Would recommend.
OVERALL: Loved the reef resort because the accommodations were nice but not crowded. Driving to rum point or the dive shop were not an issue. We went to georgetown and the turtle farm only once but that was enough, if you are looking to go to georgetown more than once I wouldn't stay on the east end, too much time to get there.

GREAT VACATION- HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE REEF!!!

Room Tip: 1st floor to be right on the beach, but avoid the building right in front of the pool as you will ha...

Family friendly resort on the LESS crowded side of Grand Cayman. Fun pools for the kids to play in, and soft clean white sand beaches. Good exercise room is a plus. Not the best snorkeling in front of the resort, because the wave action tends to cloud up the water. To do best snorkeling walk down about 100 yards past the Morritts Resort pier and work your way back towards the Reef Resort. On the downside, watch for Jet skiers, kiteboarders, and sailboarders, because there seems to be no real boundary between the activities. Rooms were clean and directly on the beach. Service was friendly. We were not approached once about a timeshare. Little grocery store across the road is very convenient, not to mention a GREAT Italian restaurant. One major downfall is no internet connection, which makes a "working" vacation tough. However, the Dunkin Donuts across the the street does have access (the DD has the HORRIBLE service).

We stayed in the Reef this past April. We stayed in room 204 a/b units. This is a lovely resort located in a very quiet location, on the East End of the Island. The staff is great. The units are very well appointed, Nice tv(s) and DVD players in the room and great beds. The resort is right on the ocean and the views are great. This resort is great for couples or families. All the rooms are open and spacious. Wifi is a bit sporadic. Loved eating at the Bistro with live music and Kaoake. Cathy was the star of the property.

Just recently came back from a five night, six day stay at The Reef resort on the East End of Grand Cayman with my fiancee. We stayed in a deluxe ocean-front studio, which was equipped with a small kitchenette, small patio, king sized bed, most importantly a beautiful view of the ocean which was just steps away from our patio. This was our second stay at the hotel, and it was well worth it. My fiancee and I live in NYC, and we love to travel to locations that are nestled away from the crowds. If you are like us then this is the place for you, if your the type of person who is looking to stay in a big city-like environment with 24 hour entertainment then the East End is not for you. The East End is known for being quiet, tranquil, and beautiful. As for our stay, the beach, the reef, and the hotel grounds are all immaculate, extremely well-maintained. The food is good, there are two restaurants in the hotel, and a subway sandwich restaurant. We found that all of the food was pretty good, when we stayed two years ago we had no complaints either. The Resort does a beach bbq party on mondays, the food was excellent that day (ribs, fish, chicken, corn on the cob, fried plantains, rice and beans, coleslaw). Just across from the hotel there is a dunkin donuts, an Italian food spot, a liquor store and a supermarket.
If your looking to drink, then the reef the bar the place for you, it is outstanding (happy hour monday to friday = 4 TO 6 pm; two for one drink specials). All of the bartenders have a way of making your day memorable always putting a smile on your face. The Reef is a family friendly hotel, there are always small kids running around and there are so many activities for them that they'll never be bored. There are several pools that are very clean and roomy, never overcrowded and they have stunning views of the sea.
When you come to the Reef Resort you are coming here because enjoy snorkeling and simple relaxation. Theres an abundance of aquatic life all over the reefs, the reef is lively, and you don't really even need to swim to far out to experience all this. If you are into snorkeling I would highly recommend White Sands Water Sports, a local company that works in conjunction with the hotel. They offer all types of snorkeling trips at fair prices, and each trip is memorable.
The only negative aspect of the Resort is the "previews" that the hotel recommends its guests to go on. These previews are time share pitches where a representative from the hotel will try to convince you to become a "member" of the hotel. Now in all fairness the resort does compensate you for going on these previews, you get food and beverage credits, free trips to stingray city, etc, whichever you choose. However BEWARE you are for-warned , the sales reps simply do not know when to throw in the towel. I understand its a business and they're sole purpose is to sell you a time share but when the your making your sales pitch and the person sitting across from you tells you that they are not interested in buying, that means that they are not interested in buying. I shouldn't have to tell you ten times that I'm not interested in buying and then be insulted by your remarks on what I do for a living, or my finances because in the end all that does is deter people from re-visiting the Reef Resort in the future.
In sum, everything is going to have its pros and cons (thats life), but this Resort is definitely a place you should visit, its in a really good location, its safe & secure, its fun, offers exceptional services, and just one visit will make you want to keep coming back again and again. We literally just got back and we are already thinking about when we can go back to the Reef Resort. Good clean fun for all ages, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is even contemplating visiting the Grand Cayman Islands.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the best views of the ocean. Junior suites have stoves to cook food

We recently spent 5 nights at The Reef Resort on the East End of Grand Cayman Island. We had a two room suite on the second floor of building two, which was very nice. The room opens on the street side of the building and has a balcony on the beach side so we had a great view of the beach from our living room and master bedroom. The balcony had a table and chairs so we could use the balcony for anything that we would have wanted. We paid the extra per day charge for the deluxe all inclusive service and very much enjoyed the ease and convenience of the all inclusiveness. We were able to eat and drink at any time of the day at any of their facilities, including the on-site Subway restaurant. We usually chose to sit at the bar because the bartenders, Nick, Collin and Tony, were very attentive and enjoyable. We also ate at the other locations of the resort but the menus were very similar during the lunch and dinner hours at the bar and the restaurant and we liked the casual nature of the bar. We attended the Barefoot Man performance, which was enjoyable though probably not suitable for young children. We also attended the other activities that the resort had on various nights, such as the welcome night, steak night and the island buffet. While the food was good, it wasn't inspired. However, we really enjoyed being able to eat right there at the resort without any fuss. We ate almost all of our meals there at the resort due to the ease of being able to eat so easily and casually.

We booked a snorkel trip through their on-site water sports company, White Sand, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were also able to make use of the snorkel gear and kayaks which were included as part of our all inclusive package.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice, with a fully equipped kitchen, televisions in each bedroom and living room, plenty of towels, and extra bedding for the Murphy beds. Although we did not see anyone from housekeeping in our room, our trash was emptied and our towels and beds were taken care of daily. They came and went without notice probably because we spent very little time in our room. We were always out on the very nice white, sand in the chairs that were always available, or we were off on an outing somewhere. The beach chairs were always out and, during our visit, were never full. We had our choice of places to sit. I did notice that the section of the beach in front of the building on the other side of the restaurant/bar section seemed to be more busier and more crowded.

We rented a car, which I would suggest as the distance from Georgetown is about 35-40 minutes. We were able to go to several of the other public beaches on the east end of the island easily. There was no traffic, as there were no crowds. The resort is right on the main road to that end of the island and very easy to find.

The only down side to this resort is that, while it is a vacation resort, it is also a time share and the concierge staff frequently asked us if we had attended the presentation, for which we would get a free trip to Stingray City. We were not at all interested in a time share so the repeated asking and pressure to attend a presentation was a little bit annoying.

Overall, our family enjoyed this resort and would return again. My teens asked, as we were driving away, if we could come again this summer!

Room Tip: If you want ease of access to the beach, a first floor room would be great. If you want a little mo...

We just returned from a week at The Reef Resort (March 24-31) and had a wonderful vacation on Cayman. We loved the East End location (relaxed, not crowded, laid back) and The Reef is a fantastic location right on the beach. We had a first floor, two bedroom condo in the center building which provided a glorious view of the water and palm trees! Every unit has a beach view so you can't go wrong. Some people prefer the upstairs units for privacy but we enjoyed the easy access to our unit from the porch right off the beach. We were close to the tennis court and beach bar which was very convenient for our family. The staff is very friendly and Kieron at the front desk was very helpful when we arrived. There was an error with our reservation and the resort had us arriving a week later than our arrival date. Kieron took care of it and got us set up in our unit a few hours after our arrival. He made several trips to find us at the restaurant and beach so we were updated and knew as soon as our unit was available.

While the location of the resort is 5 star, the accommodations are more "comfortable" than "luxurious", but certainly met our needs. I would describe the unit itself as a 3 star. There is a fully equipped kitchen (ours had granite counters), 2 bedrooms (pillows were not the most comfortable but beds were decent) and murphy beds that pull down. Bathrooms (there were 2) are basic but do include a hair dryer and shampoo/conditioner. We found the housekeeping service to be outstanding. Our unit was cleaned daily with full cleaning (fresh towels, beds made, floors swept and mopped daily, and the kitchen cleaned - even dishes washed if left in the sink).

The snorkeling off the beach (between the Reef pier and Morritt's pier) was amazing for the first 4 days. We saw several varieties of fish as well as sting rays and a nurse shark. Snorkeling off the beach on the last day was not as good as it was windy and the waves were churning up the sand so you couldn't see as much. There is a great snorkeling trip offered by White Sands (snorkel safari) which is located right on the beach at the resort. They guys are very friendly and helpful and they also offer snorkel rentals, kayaks, jet ski tours, paddle boards, and wind surfing. I do recommend beach shoes for walks or just playing in the water. The sandy beach is interspersed with coral and rocks so you'll want something on your feet if you're not wearing fins when you are in the water. You'll also need water shoes for longer walks if you go past The Reef to the left (lots of coral) and past Morritt's to the right (rocky).

The beach bar/restaurant was one of our favorites for atmosphere, views, and decent food. Mike makes "the best" rum punch! We preferred the beach menu to the menu at the Pelican Reef. Food is expensive as we found everywhere on the island, and while drinks can be pricy, they do offer happy hour all day on Saturday and Sunday and some evenings during the week. We enjoyed many of the resort activities (making tye-dye shirts, trivia games, music in the evenings, star gazing, complementary bike cruisers, tennis, basketball, and swimming in the two pools). We also caught the Barefoot Man's show (he's there on Tuesday and Thursday) which was entertaining. There is a two drink minimum to see the show if you're not having dinner. I would recommend the Italian Kitchen (across the street) and Tukka's (about a 5 minute drive from the resort) for dinner options. Both were excellent but pricy.

Overall, this was one of our most favorite vacations. We loved the East End location and the relaxed atmosphere at the Reef. We would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: We enjoyed a first floor unit for the convenience of going to our room directly from the beach. Tha...

Just returned from thr Reef,3/21 to 3/28,we did luck out with the wind, but I can say the resort and the snorkeling is as nice as anywhere! The beach is sandy for people that like to relax with lots of places for shade, the water is awsome snorkeling(way better than cozumel) lots of tropical fish, lobsters, rays, etc... The DBL room with kitchen was perfect for a family with a 12yr and 15 yr as there is a grocery store behind the resort along a watersports/gift shop. The food at the resort is good but the service is a bit slow as it is on the whole island! Go!Relax!
