Dont get me wrong, we love the Reef. But this was our last time to stay there, as they cater to the time share owners and actual condo owners. We love it there because we have great access to the beach from the first floor. It's easy for our ten year old to go to the pool or beach while we relax in the evenings on our porch. we chose to celebrate our 20 year wedding anniversary there this summer with our kids.....at the Reef in our usual beach/pool access condo...that's why we stay there.
We request a 1st floor condo near the pool every time and that's where we stayed the 1 st 2 times, but this time we were put in the farthest building away from any pool on the 2nd floor. We made our usual request weeks in advanced. Apparently several time sharers and owners were coming this same week and they have first dibs. We were told we were first on the list to move if anything opened up. Never heard back from anyone the entire 5 night stay. ever.
The icing on the cake was when we counted at least 12 1st floor condos unoccupied throughout our stay. I understand if it really was a full house, but it wasn't. Kids were really bummed, as we're my husband and I. We will never book the Reef again. We are not interested in purchasing a condo/time share, so we will never be guaranteed our request. We are taking our next trip elsewhere in Cayman next time. :(

We thank you for your comments and apologize for the inconvenience you and your family experienced during your stay. Our reservations and front desk teams strive to accommodate all guest requests, including room assignments. During your stay, our IT team were working in the first floor units to install our new wireless internet system. The team works in a block of units at a time which is why there appeared to be so many vacant rooms. Once project is complete, guests will enjoy faster, more reliable internet service in their rooms as well as throughout the resort.

What an awesome experience!! I've stayed at The Reef 4 or 5 times over the past three years. This visit was as good, if not better, than the previous visits. Once again, the experience was fantastic. The accommodations are great. Every unit faces the beach and Caribbean Sea. You can't believe the view you have, especially of the sun rise every morning as The Reef faces the east. You'll want to have a pair of flip-flops or water shoes with you when you visit The Reef as there's quite a bit of broken coral at the water's edge. We've found wearing flip-flops helps you get beyond the few feet of broken coral at the water's edge and into that beautifuly blue Caribbean Sea. The staff at The Reef can’t be more helpful or friendly. Tony, Nick and Collin man the Beach Bar and you’ll find them very efficient and truly friendly bartenders. Doris waits tables and can’t be more friendly and helpful. You’ll see supervisory staff walking the grounds throughout the day. Mr. Lawrence is always ready with a big “Welcome Home!” as he walks about checking the grounds and keeping an eye on the staff. The concierge staff can be truly helpful – if you find a need to leave The Reef. Rum Point, which is only a 15 minute drive from The Reef, is a “must experience” beach. You’ll love it. But, the more we visit The Reef, the more realize that there’s no need to leave the resort. The food and drinks at The Reef are as good as the food and drinks served at the nearby top-quality restaurants. If you want a truly relaxing vacation experience where shorts, a t-shirt and sandals are the dress-of-the-day, you’ll love The Reef. Remember, The Reef is on the east end of Grand Cayman, about as far away from Seven Mile Beach as one can get. We like that because it's quiet, less hectic and more laid back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great. They all face the beach and ocean and are all only a few steps from the po...

We just got back from spending a week at The Reef Resort. We had a wonderful trip. This was our 4th trip to Grand Cayman. Loved this side of the island (usually stay on 7 mile). There was a really nice breeze (very hot on the other side of the island) and the snorkeling was great. We snorkeled everyday off the beach. Others wrote that it was rocky and shallow to snorkel but we saw tarpon, all sorts of fish, rays, lobster, etc. We brought our own snorkel gear and use boots with fins so that you don't have any problems getting out but it isn't necessary. This is not the kind of place that is so fancy that you don't know what city you are in when you are in your room. The resort was very clean and had clean towels everyday. We go to Mexico a lot but wanted to go somewhere that we felt completely safe and could relax. We rented a car while at The Reef so able to drive to the Queen Elizabeth Botanical Garden a couple of times (which was great) to see the blue iguanas and took the extra tour to see their recovery program. Drove to Rum Point and saw parrots, beautiful starfish and took wave runners out which was a blast (they arranged it at The Reef). We didn't rent a car in town because didn't want to drive on the left in the traffic. Usually in Mexico by day 5 we are ready to go home but this was great. Had our teenage son with us and he had a good time too. The gym is nice and the spa was great. We thought the food was good (and we are from Houston where there is great food) but we did the most all inclusive we could do so didn't have to worry about food and drink charges. There is a subway on the property that is included in the all inclusive so we could get drinks, chips, etc. there and it was included. The Italian Kitchen restaurant across the street (not part of The Reef) has really good food so that is the only meal we ate out. There is a grocery store across the street so you could get items you needed. All the rooms have views of the ocean. Would definitely go back. We also did the timeshare talk and although didn't buy, did not feel hassled at all. Thanks so much!

Room Tip: We were on the second floor at the end (by the timeshare property next door) so very quiet and the a...

I've stayed at the Reef Resort four times now and it keeps getting a little better each time. All aspects of my stay were great. Helpful staff and clean rooms. I love the East side of the Island for its quiet and peacefullness. Be sure to rent a car though as it is quite the drive to get to the resort from the airport and once at the resort you'll want to be able to get around. The restaurant dinner food is nothing to rave about but they serve excellent burgers and wraps. Tikky bar is great with really nice bartenders. A nice bonus this year - the temperature was 20 degree's cooler in the Caymans than back home in the States.

Room Tip: All rooms have the same great view and a balcony that faces the Ocean. There is not a bad room in t...

My husband & I were guests at a wedding last weekend. The wedding took place on the pier and was very picturesque. The Reef Resort is very beautifully situated, white sand beach & shades of blue water. Our 2nd floor room was large and included a jacusi bathtub. Only the bathroom was small. We faced the beach and swimming pools. We bought the all inclusive option & it was very well worth it. We went swimming with Sting Rays out of Rum Point. The bar and wait staff are very friendly & efficient. Sandra Reid was the best server we've ever had.

Our stay at The Reef Resort was perfectly adequate. The rooms are clean, the property is well-maintained and the staff is helpful. The beach is pretty nice and all rooms are truly oceanfront. Getting there is quite a long drive from the airport, but if you're looking for peace and quiet, it's worth it.

This was actually my second time staying here (in July both times), and they have added a third building since our last stay in 2007. However, the last time I came was with more people and I really think this property is better suited to those traveling with family and friends. This time was just my boyfriend and myself, and we found ourselves driving to the Seven Mile Beach (SMB)-side of the island... umm... every day. We also hit Rum Point and Star Fish Point multiple times during our five days.

But The Reef Resort does have a lot of amenities and the food is decent. Although I don't think I'd do the all-inclusive (we did not). The restaurant options are just ok and service is generally slow. No buffet options. We hit the grocery store and kept our food in the nice sized fridge/freezer offered in the room, which was the studio option. They also had a toaster and microwave. We ate about half of our meals out and ended up spending a little more than one day would've cost us on the deluxe all-inclusive plan. If you like to have more than one drink with your meals then it may be worth it... but even then, it's a lot of money for what you get.

Everyone on staff is very friendly and are readily available but pretty much leave you alone unless you need them. A huge plus in my opinion.

The beach had very few people on it with plenty of chairs to soak up the sun in, and the pool was a really nice option if you didn't want to hang out in the ocean. It rarely had more than a couple of people in it. Even though the beach/ocean here are very nice, Rum Point and SMB beaches are much more scenic. The water is prettier there. It's not as crystal clear here. There's a lot of turtle grass that darkens it.

Overall, it was really quiet and relaxing, but without a larger group to make the place your own, it can be a little isolating.

Room Tip: Choose the 2nd or 3rd floor for more privacy. Choose 1st floor to be on beach level.

Very nice resort, clean and quiet. The concierge was not helpful, would not call us back to schedule 2 outings? The friends we stayed with had to call for towels at least 3 days a week. The restaurant was very slow after 8:00 and we waited over an hour for a small meal. Everything else was great atmosphere, pool, and beach. Visit Rum point, George Town, and Starfish beach. It is a quiet relaxing resort with everything you need. If you want night life stay on Seven mile beach, this resort is just for slow relaxing days on the beach. Snorkeling is good and scuba diving was great so the divers said! There are many very good restaurants locally. Tuka's is terrific, the lighthouse is also awesome! Be prepared to spend alot of cash to eat. Most evening dining was 80-100.00 per couple even without drinks!

Room Tip: Second floor is good!
