“ALL YOU COULD ASK FOR”

My wife and I traded time share points for a week long 1 bedroom / one bath vacation rental on October 5th through the 12th and found the accomodations almost perfect. We were centrally located on the property, 2nd floor with a large balcony overlooking the beach, ocean, bar and outside restaurant seating area. As this was off season, the property was mostly empty which gave free access to the beach with little or no other persons around. My wife was able to release a baby Loggerhead Turtle to the ocean that was found on the beach the day b4 our arrival. The service was impeccable, friendly and prompt. The staff treated us like friends and were respectful. Excursion advice was sound and as advertised and they took care of everything for us. This had to be one the best vacations we've ever experienced. From swiming and feeding Sting Rays, Botanical Gardens with the infamous Blue Iguanas, great meals on site and off, snorkeling right off the beach and and pier, local food store, gift shop, etc., I cannot recommend this away from the hussle bussle of 7 mile beach more highly. If you want some away time with access to all that the island has to offer, try The Reef in East Grand Cayman!!! Ask for Rochi for any excursions or travel plans... she is excellent!!!

Room Tip: As all rooms have an ocean view, it probably does not matter unless you want to be on the ground flo...

The resort was everything we were looking for, family orientated, very quiet and tranquil. The 2 bedroom suite was very spacious and clean, it could have done with a little updating. Our suite had walkout doors to the beach, which was a bonus for the kids. We were there during the off season which was great, it felt like we had a private beach, the resort may have been half full

The positive points for this resort is that it is small, out of the way and great for snorkeling right off the beach. The disadvantage is that since beach is great for snorkeling, it's not that great for swimming without a mask. There are rocks and sea grass all over the place, which is why the snorkeling was good.

I loved it, and loved the fact that I could snorkel whenever I felt like it , without paying someone to drive me to a good location. Perfect for me! Most people go down to the hotel next door (Morritt's ), start at their pier which is full of fish, big and small, and then float with the current back to the Reef's pier. My husband went on several excellent scuba trips, arranged right at the Reef.

I would highly recommend renting a car if you can get a good deal. The Reef is clear on the other side of the island from the rest of the action. Nice to be able to get to town and other locations on the island.

There was a grocery store and a liquor store across the street, and normally an Italian restaurant, but it was closed because we were there at the slow season (Sept. 7 - 14th). We ate in most nights, but did try a local country restaurant called Vivine's Kitchen. Wonderful food! Very causal, they bring the food out to you at picnic tables overlooking the water. There was a Subway available at the Reef, for quick meals. The Reef also has a nice café, and restaurant, but we never ate there so I can't comment.

The staff were all very nice and helpful. All the rooms had beautiful views of the water. And it looked bright and freshly painted. Everything was nice and clean and in good working order.

If I go back the Grand Cayman, I'd definitely go back to the Reef.

Stayed here during off season, and the hotel seems only half full, or maybe less. The rooms are clean and comfortable ... And we were literally 10 steps away from the sand and just a few more to the pool. The staff all did a good job... I saw no one go out of their way to be extraordinarily friendly, but all were polite. The gym had at least two pieces of equipment out of order and there seemed to be renovations going on at various places throughout as can be expected during slower season. The activities were somewhat lacking, but I expect with it being so slow right now, they are not going to pull out all the stops. We only ate the Monday night barbecue, and it was just ok. Afterward, we either fixed our own food or went off premises to eat. Drinks at the bar are horribly expensive for what you get - more ice than drink. Do yourself a huge favor and go to the liquor store to stock up- there is one just across the street. Fosters market next door is ok in a pinch but best bet is to stop at the one near the airport as it has a tremendously better selection.. Especially meats and produce. I recommend renting a car at the airport. It was not difficult at all to get around (you may want to add a gps to your rental though - just makes it a lot easier while you are also concentrating on driving on the left side). Having a car makes life much easier and gives you the freedom to set your own schedule. We did the stingray city excursion through White Sands at the hotel and loved it! The snorkeling after seeing the stingrays was amazing.. A million times better than what you will see at the resort. We also spent a day in Georgetown and Camana Bay shopping. Georgetown has all the typical cruise ship port type shops and restaurants while Camana Bay is way more high end (expensive!). We also visited the botanical gardens and enjoyed it. Overall, it's a very expensive island so expect to spend quite a bit for just about anything.

I would come back to The Reef if I decided to come back to Grand Cayman. It's away from the busy side of the island and has everything you need. I can't speak for how good it may be when they are busier and perhaps have more to offer, but overall for this visit I found it to be only average.

The apartment was clean, well equipped and very comfortable. The only oddity was having the largest TV in the bedroom, while the living room had a tiny 14". The balcony always provided some much needed shade through the day. Every apartment is beach fronted, so a guaranteed fabulous view to wake up to every morning.
The staff are without exception, kind and helpful.
Eating in the restaurant can get monotonous, but there are many other places within easy reach, some providing transportation to and from the resort. Having the mini supermarket just opposite the resort was very handy.
The resort is very family friendly and as a first time snorkeler I was blown away with the reef.(though I admit, having snorkeled at Rum Point the reef is not as good).
Well worth doing the Sting ray/snorkeling adventure.
Great Value and a great holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms are beach fronted, but the older rooms are a little larger.

This was our third trip to the East End and our second stay at The Reef. Before our arrival, Daina helped us set up all of our planned activities. She was very informative and responded quickly to each of our emails. She was also able to get us discounts on some of our activities. When we arrived she had a schedule of our activities waiting for us at the concierge desk.

Our room was located on the third floor as we had requested. We were impressed with how clean the room was. Our one bedroom was spacious and had an amazing view of the ocean. This visit we decided to take the all inclusive package. Nick, Tony and Doris took care of us all week. They always greeted us with a smile and many times were preparing our drinks for us as we walked up to the bar. The all inclusive may seem on the expensive side but if you plan to eat most of your meals at the resort you will save money. The food was excellent all week. The menu is very large and even after 8 nights we were not running out of good options.

During our visit we took the 7 AM Stingray City trip with Chris though White Sands. The trip was amazing. Chris took 6 of us out and we were on the sandbar all by ourselves. He then took us to a great snorkeling spot on the reef. He told us to take as much time as we wanted at both stops. On a previous trip we had taken a larger boat out to stingray city in the afternoon. This trip was much more enjoyable.

The Reef is an extremely relaxing vacation spot. Most days we relaxed on the beach reading and spending time in the ocean. This is their slowest time of year and most days we were one of only a few couples on the beach. It almost felt like our own private getaway.

In the past we have also stayed at Morritt's. After having experienced both resorts we would always return to The Reef. The rooms are much nicer and the over all vibe of the resort is much more relaxing and guest-friendly. The staff goes out of their way to get to know you and make sure you are having a great vacation. I have no doubt that we will continue to return to The Reef in the future.

Go between September 7th and 14th and you will have the place to yourself. Staff are friendly and the place is meticulously maintained. Not even a burned out light bulb. Not a spot of rust. Forget the food here. The cafe makes a great omelet but that's about it. Take a pass on the buffet. You'll thank me later!

Great places nearby: Tukka for fabulous island fair and The Lighthouse to which I challenge you to find better Italian food short if going to Italy. I am Sicilian-borne and usually very critical of most Italian food. You'll thank me later.

This is our fourth trip to Cayman, we have a timeshare and family here. The decline in the island's economy is remarkable even in a year. Lot fewer cruise ships in George Town means great deals. Warning... Things are expensive here. VERY. Expensive. Also you must rent a car. You don't have a choice if you want to get around.

I've stayed at other time share trades and this,by far, is the best even though its out of the way. Bring an underwater camera because the snorkeling is terrific.
