We decided to book the Reef Resort based upon all of the great comments we read on this site. We were not disappointed! Everything about the Reef was great. We were celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary and they left a bottle of champagne and a nice anniverary card in the room for us. We really wanted someplace peaceful and quiet and this was just perfect. We stayed in a studio unit on the second floor in the newest building and we may have been the first guests to use the room - it looked that new. Everything was sparkling clean, and the kitchenette was adequately stocked. I don't think there were more than two other couples in that building and very few others at the resort, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. The staff was friendly and we especially enjoyed chatting with John who feeds the fish from the dock each day at noon.
We used Dexter's Fantasea Tours for our trip to the Stingray Sandbar and it was a good choice. There were only 16 people on the sailboat and since there weren't any cruise ships in port Dexter's was the only boat at the Sandbar. I would definitely recommend Dexter's if you have any kids - the water is shallower and Dexter makes sure everyone gets to touch or hold the stingrays - he's right in the water with you the whole time.
We ate at the Reef's beach bar the first evening. My husband sampled the fish and chips and I had a burger - both were good. The next night we tried Portofino's and really liked that - great Italian food and not outrageously expensive. We actually returned to Portofino's on our last night because we liked it so much. It's about 5 minutes from the resort. The only restaurant we didn't like was Viviane's - we wanted to try it because they advertised local foods. We both ordered the fried fish and chips and my husband got a couple of decent sized chunks of fish, but my plate had a small, whole fish on it that had been deep-fried (head and all) but there was absolutely NO meat on the fish! We told the server when we went up to the window to pay her (after she delivered our plates she never returned to check on us at all - we even had to call out loud for them to come to the window so we could pay them), but she didn't seem to care at all about my lack of a meal. We were the only ones there that night and I can see why. We would never take a chance on that place again.
We flew on a direct flight out of Charlotte and we picked up a bottle of wine and a bottle of rum at the duty-free in Charlotte. We were glad we did since the liquor prices on the island were incredibly high - about three times what the same bottle of wine would cost here. I wish we could have packed some in our luggage since the duty-free wasn't terribly inexpensive either.
We drove into Georgetown one afternoon and it was a pleasant place to wander around - again no cruise ships - so it was practically deserted. We drove by the Hell post office to take a picture. It was closed so we couldn't send postcards. Another afternoon we drove to Rum Point. It was a pleasant place to hang out for a few hours and we have some great pictures from there.
We have been to several different Caribbean islands and we both agreed that so far this is our favorite. We will definitely return and I am sure we would choose the Reef Resort again - we loved it!

This is my second time traveling to The Reef Resort. If you are looking for a great relaxing getaway, the Reef Resort is for you. The accomodations are ocean front. The units are spacious. It is very quiet and low key. The resort is about 25 minutes from Seven Mile Beach, but there are some great resturants in the East End. I do not recommend if you are looking for a location with lots of action. This resort is private condominiums that cater to those who are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. I find the Reef Resort to be a great value and a clean safe place to stay.

We loved our stay at The Reef. We are a family of 5, so we found the accommodations just perfect. We had enough space and privacy to indulge our teenagers the way an ordinary hotel room could not have. The condo exceeded our expectations and the price for the value was wonderful. We loved having the small grocery across the street, so that we did not have to eat out every meal. The view from our room was far more beautiful than we could have imagined. Loved the access to the beautifully maintained pools. Beach was fabulous, and the snorkeling right off the beach was some of the best on the island! We would absolutely return and recommend to friends and family. Thank you for a very memorable vacation. It had been 15 years since our last visit. It remains a place dear to our hearts. 6/24-6/30/2007

If you like bright, smiling, lovely staff, always willing to make your stay as perfect and stress-free as possible… all oceanfront balconies on patios so close to the ocean that you can’t believe it…fun beach bar… as many activities as you can think of…Cayman’s own Barefoot Man playing twice a week…more fish under the dock than most snorkel spots… and the convenience of the Thirsty Surfer and little Foster’s…there is no better place—and those palapas are wonderful! 6/23-6/30/07

Don't think, just book it!!
I visited The Reef in May for a relaxing vacation with my boyfriend and it was just that- we'll be going back again & again!! There are a few things you need to know -
1. these are mostly time shares, you will be sharing a balcony with the guests next to you and there's not much of a divider wall BUT, the resort will acomidate you if you need to move rooms for any reason - we upgraded to a larger unit in the new building the first day...
2. this is the East end of the island- a cab ride into 7mile is $60-$100 One Way!! Rent a car...
3.If you're planning to stay for more than a week, go for the larger 2 bedroom unit - there is a full kitchen, living room, private master bedroom etc... You Will need to cook at least 2 meals in the room, it gets Very Expensive to eat out!! Fosters market across the street has all the basics that you will need....
Thats it for the negatives.... The Reef is SUPER CLEAN!! Super Relaxing!! Very Private!! (If you want to bar hop this is not the place to go) Go & Relax - It's great!! Also, Rum Point is a must !!

I spent a perfect week of peace and quiet at the Reef. All staff from the front desk, concierge, food/beverage and maid service were so kind and helpful. My room was kept so clean and cool! Excellent customer service is lacking in no one that I meet during my stay at The Reef.
Snorkeling was fantastic right there off the beach....just be careful as the far east end of the beach is a bit rocky and can pose a challenge when heading back in toward the shore.
The beach is clean, pool was refreshing and the view from my room was amazing! Be sure to set your clock or have a wake up call to catch the sunrise..it is breathtaking!
TIP: Definitely rent a car to explore the island. Lots to see, Rum Point, Kaibo and of course Georgetown. It was always good to come "home" to The Reef.
