“Best on St Martin”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2012

We just returned from a week on St Martin and again stayed at OBBR (this is our 4th time). We have stayed at other timeshares on St Martin as well as other islands in the Caribbean and OBBR is definitely our favorite. The last two times we have been lucky enough to have a 2 bedroom over looking the ocean/pool and you can't beat the view. The trade off was our unit has not yet been updated but everything worked and it was clean. We always find the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. The only downfall is with checking out - there are only 3 people and everyone is trying to leave at the same time because of flight - I'd suggest adding more people or create an simple express checkout process (this might require changing the check in process some but might be worth it). One word of caution - upon existing the resort (near Mr Busby's driveway) some guys from the Westin will try and stop your car, give you a scratch off and when you "win" whatever it is you get to collect your winnings that day at the Westin. Stupidly we fell for it the first time and it was a pain trying to get away without being rude. After that it just became an irritant...so, word to the wise, don't stop with the try and flag you down. That aside rain or shine OBBR is a grand time.

We arrived on a Saturday from Anguilla and what a disappointment the beach was, small & covered in seaweed. But when we got to our room, it was very nice, brand new furniture, nice linens and clean and happy. We quickly realized a rental car was a must, rented from onsite- expect $200/ week. As we explored the island and did site inspections, favorite beaches were Grand Case, orient beach (windy & wavy), and isle of Pinel.

The pool was very dirty & hot tub I barely wanted to put a toe in, by Wed. It was cleaned and the whole family spent the afternoon in it. Great happy hour 4-6 everyday, and local restaurants nothing too exciting, Busbys next door was very good as well as convent, grocery next door. Expect a request for a timeshare pitch, but it's not pushed too hard. Activities desk was very helpful and worked with me to ensure best values and experiences as I would be writing about them. FYI, many ocean-front rooms are being renovated, so we had the marina view - which was lovely.

Room Tip: Ask if your room has been renovated. Unless you don't mind the noise, I would not request pool-s...

We've stayed at Oyster Bay Beach Resort for thirteen years, usually for two weeks at a time. You can be free to explore the island by renting a car on-site or from many other sources at or near the airport or the resort Activities Desk offers many options for transportation and island exploration as well. On-site restaurants are great and there are also many near-by opportunities as well ranging from quaint French to pizza or more upscale. There is an on-site day spa that offers all services and a massage is always a great way to begin a relaxed vacation. The adjoining Dawn Beach offers free chairs and umbrellas for resort guests and relaxing strolls and, if you're so inclined, an easy way to enjoy the water world by snorkeling from the beach. Most units have been totally updated under the guidance of professional decorators and with the latest updates in amenities. A truly relaxing get-away! Check out the extensive website at http://www.oysterbaybeachresort.com/.

Room Tip: There are many ocean-facing rooms or the more tranquil marina-facing views. All the units are of co...

We've stayed here twice as a time share guests and once as a non-time share guest. We loved it all three times. We do get slightly better treatment when we are staying with our time share owners.

The staff is extremely friendly, the food is fantastic and there is always something going on. I love the view of St. Barth's from the infinity pool.

I just wish Dawn Beach would clear up, but you can't blame OBBR for Mother Nature.

OBBR has the potential (may have had the potential) to offer a one stop resort - however the biggest current drawback is that the beach is unusable due to knee high seaweed covering the beach and huge rafts of seaweed on the water surface. Unfortunately the resort has NOT made any effort to clean the beach or accommodate guests with either a shuttle or access to another beach - guests are left with little choice but renting a car or paying huge taxi rates to enjoy sun and sand. A huge Faux Pas!!

On site restaurants (Infinity and Beau Beau's) are tired and lack any culinary interest. A short walk away Mr. Busby's is a culinary surprise and Big Fish draws a crowd. But if you have a car - drive to Grand Casse where a french/creole fusion cuisine is sure to tantalize.

Suites were comfortable, clean and functional but need updating and capital reinvestment. Views of Oyster Pond or the Ocean are outstanding and early morning coffee on the balcony overlooking the pond was a treat. Staff was hugely accommodating and helpful with organizing off-site excursions - St. Barth's is a must! - general requests, giving directions and tips on where to go and what to see.

Overall - comfortable, but uninspiring and not on a list for a return visit.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the lobby. Rooms on the marina side offer great relaxing views.

We always enjoy our stay at Oyster Bay Beach Resort (OBBR)! It is a place where we can go to relax, read and dine in wonderful restaurants! The facilities (we have stayed in studios, 1 and 2 bd rms) and views at OBBR are more than 5 stars! The Activities Desk always has lots to do - if you wish to partake, but you can just relax and read a book by the pool or at the beach. Food and drink service in both locations is excellent. We have been going there about 10 years and always rent a car. We have been able to rent a car in St. Maarten for less money than anywhere (USA or Europe) else we have traveled. While we have seen the island many times (we always drive around once), our favorite things to do away from OBBR are eat in Grand Case's French restaurants and go to the Margot Flea Market. There are many shops in Phillipsburg and Margot, but shopping is not something we tend to do, although we have purchased beautiful jewelry. If you don't make arrangements for a car ahead of time at the airport, you can rent by the day or even week reasonably at the Activities Desk at OBBR.

We (3 couples) arrived in Oyster Bay on 6/30/12 and stayed through 7/7/12. The resort itself was very clean (except for Dawn's Beach) and the service and atmosphere were great. We did experience at least three (3) occasions when the electricity went out, but it came right back on in two of the three cases. The other one left us in the dark while eating dinner. Luckily we all had flashlights in our phones, so we made the most of it. We were fortunate to stay in the Penthouse overlooking the ocean, where we were fortunate to have our own personal jacuzzi/pool. Once we figured out how to work it it became very useful to us (if you can't figure it out, call for maintenance).

We rented a car (if you're there for a week, you MUST rent a car) through Thrifty and went to just about every beach on the island. We began at Karaker beach, which is tucked away right beside the airport (Juliana). This was a very nice beach...the service was great and they even had a dog named Martin there. The event that Oyster Bay provided (for $65 per person, or 1/2 this if you attended a sales seminar) was very fun and I would highly recommend it. They keep it a secret so I won't say where we went, just that it was good times.

Our most enjoyable time on the entire trip though had to be our venture to Shoal Bay on Anguilla. You have to ride the ferry (bring your passports!), and if you're one to get sea sick, don't take a chance, either take the pills or sit up in the front of the boat...trust me on this one. You will have to take a cab ride to the beach which is around 20 minutes or so. It costs us $45.00 a couple but it's well worth it. Shoal Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (see pictures). Also do not forget about going to Maho Beach. This is where the planes take off and land. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Google Maho Beach and find videos of the low-flying planes...it's a blast!

We also went and ate the lobster buffet on Wednesday night (either Wed or Sat) at La Mini club on the french side. It's around $60/65 per person and if you like lobster you'll love this, but, if you're one that isn't that big of a fan of it, don't do it.

Our last night we ate at a place called Taloula Mango's, located on the boardwalk at Philipsburg (where the ships dock). This place had very good food and margaritas...I would highly recommend it.

Feel free to contact me for any additional information.

*Oh, we did experience a 5.2 earthquake while there...this was my first experience with one
