We stayed here for one night, in a family room (children aged 8,5 and 2). The room was a standard sized one, so with two extra beds and a travel cot there was not much room to walk around. But we were only there for one night, so this was not a problem. There is plenty of storage space to get bags/shoes/clothes out of the way. The room was very warm, but the weather was warm so that's out of the hotel's control. There is no air conditioning, but a small fan is provided. The windows only open a small amount, for safety reasons, but that means you can't open them wide to get any air coming in. The beds were comfy, the bathroom clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice, the hot food is not a buffet you have to order it from the staff.

I would recommend this hotel for families looking for a place to stay combined with a trip to Knowsley Safari Park and Catalyst science centre at Widnes like we did. BUT you definitely need to ring the hotel directly when you have made a booking and request a room overlooking the side of the hotel AWAY from the pub garden. Like other reviewers we experienced noise from the garden, this really didn't help when we were trying to get our 2 year old to sleep. At one point some children were playing football and constantly kicking the ball at our window and wall! We asked for an alternative room, but none were available, so the receptionist said she'd ring the pub manager and get him to stop the football (apparently there are 'no ball games' signs up, but clearly they are being ignored!). We did shut the window, and this stopped the worst of the noise, but then we were baking to death in the stiflingly hot room!

Room Tip: Request one that does NOT overlook the pub garden

The staff at the hotel are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Our room that overlooked the car park was sufficient, although no air conditioning meant that the room was hot and at times uncomfortable. A fan is supplied in the room. Other members in our party had a room overlooking the pub's beer garden and complained that noise from their customers did not cease until midnight.

The restaurant appears to be understaffed. The queue at the bar was ridiculously long and at times some of the customers became impatient and offensive. The beer garden was home to some unruly children who were squirting condiments around the grounds as well as defacing walls with crayons. The parents of these children appeared to be offended when they were asked to control their children. The garden area and terrace are littered with cigarette dimps; they can be found around the tables, in the flower pots, flower beds and all over the lawn.

In summary the hotel was good, although the bar/outdoor area was poor.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the car park. Book a table in the restaurant, otherwise you may be left orderi...

The premier inn was fabulous, just as well as Lenny Henry had spent a lot of time selling it to my son!!!
Emma on reception was excellent & it was a joy to see her happy smiling face again this morning!
She had been home between shifts cos I asked her, but I think she would have been just as bubbly even if she had not!!!
Now then,the flip side.
I suggest if you want any sort of service with your food or drink, you need to go elsewhere!!!
The staff(excluding James on the bar) were the closest thing to a waste of space as you could find!!
Summary in this Tale of 2 halves:-
If you want a decent nights kip,get your head down at the Premier Inn & say hi to Emma for me, take a sandwich & a beer though!!!

beautiful place, staff were spot on and couldn't do enough to help you, we were made to feel so welcome. lovely clean and tidy rooms. everything was explained to us. staff helped with train directions and times. train station only 5 minutes walk. Only downside that there was no air conditioning and you definitely needed it, but have been advised that this is in the process of happening.
Breakfast was fantastic and you could have as much as you liked you also had the choice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful garden.
would always recommend this lovely place to anyone who visits Liverpool.

Room Tip: You only get 30mins free wifi.

This Premier Inn is fine, as expected. It is clean tidy and provides all that anyone would expect for any Premier Inn. We sayed here in the last few days.
However:-
Derby Inn attached is really awful. Food is no more than plain fodder. It is quite crap. Very short of staff and those there had no or very little customer services. When we booked in we reserved a table in the restaurant as we were informed they would be busy. Yes correct they were. We had to wait at the entrance for 10 minutes before someone eventually took us to a table. The bar was badly staffed and organised. Both tills in operation were staffed by young lads who had no idea how to use the till. This clogged up the system as it took a further 2 members of staff to help them. Poor service for drinks. I asked for a cold slimline tonic, ( weather outside was 25deg). What a surprise they didn't have any so I had to do with a warm ordinary tonic. Clearing of the tables was appauling -- they didn't. Your used glasses and crockery just built up. We waited 30 minutes for our first course. In all it took 75 minutes for a 2 course meal. It was a lovely summer evening so we decided to sit outside with our post food drinks. All the tables on the terrace had used crockery, glasses and waste food on them. Disgusting. I would not recommend this place, nor will I return

Room Tip: no idea. ours in front of hotel was ok

2nd time we've stayed at this hotel and it won't be the last. OK if you into highly priced, impersonal, multi featured hotels, with pools and gyms most people don't use anyway, then this won't be for you. But if you want a clean, comfortable room, with a friendly and helpful service, then this place takes a lot of beating. We (a party of 8) arrived on Wednesday, parked our cars on the spacious car park until we left on the Saturday. Caught one of the frequent service buses into the city centre, no driving around looking fora car park and paying for being in the centre.
We had breakfast and evening meals in the pub/restaurant attached to the hotel and found the food and service to be very good and inexpensive.
We will definitely be staying here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on back of hotel are quieter as no road noise in mornings
