“The story of the survival of the giant tortoises”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2014

The breeding center makes the story of the Galapagos tortoises very clear. And it is an amazing story, from the extinction and near extinction of different species to the gallant efforts of this and other centers to ensure the survival of these magnificent reptiles. Their success is seen in the number of tortoises of different species at different stages of their development, from adults to babies. The information boards are very helpful as you walk through the center. The rescue of 18 adult tortoises from the Cero Azul Volcano when it erupted in 1998 makes an impact. As does the fact that there were over 200 babies hatched from these adults only two years after they were evacuated. What a success story. I loved watching the tortoises at feeding time as I had no idea they could move so quickly. There is also a nice path back to the town through wetlands. I highly recommend visiting this center.

“Every stage of the life of a tortoise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2014

Definitely worth going to if you are interested in the life span of a tortoise and the steps being taken to protect them. You can see almost every stage of a tortoise's life and there are so many to see.

“Go beyond the center to quarry to see flamingoes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 December 2013

My 4 stars are for the whole trip, not just the breeding center.
The walk started past Iguana Crossing hotel, went through some wetlands, where we were able to watch couple feeding flamingos, through mancheneel trees, till you reach the Centro de Crianza.

Unlike in Charles Darwin center, you can watch the turtles up close, walk among the enclosures of different ages of the turtles, from quite large one to the small, just hatched babies.
There was a large number of turtles and the staff lets you enjoy watching the details of these beautiful creatures.

We continued past the breading center to the road where there is a quarry and were lucky to watch another twenty or so flamingos there.

“A great place to see the breeding of land turtles”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 December 2013

This land turtle breeding center can easily be reached from the village of Villamil following a very nice path through the wetlands, where you will see flamingo's and other birds.
The breeding center is a pleasant place, where landturtles of very young age till the age of 5-10 years can be observed. It is a nice place to visit. Highly recommended!
