This hotel is a gem in Dombay. Great service from the local managers and their staff; clean and very comfortable rooms; in the centre of town, but very close to the ski lift up the mountain.
I should add that we travelled to Dumbay with (Russian) friends in mid October 2013 so our visit was not for the purposes of skiing, as the season was over. Nevertheless, there was still plenty of snow on the mountain tops and the temperature was a brisk 2C.
I had not been to Dumbay before and was unfamiliar with the area and the available hotels. The Meridian was a very pleasant surprise. As mentioned above, the quality of the rooms, hotel location and friendliness of the staff was excellent.
The hotel offers a sauna, games room, bar facilities and restaurant. Each room has a TV, mini fridge allowing you to stock your choice of beverages and central heating. The beds are very comfortable with fresh, new linen. The hotel itself is located adjacent to the river and there are 4 enclosed "huts" overlooking the river to eat lunch/dinner which you can cook yourself on the hotel supplied BBQ. In the huts you can cater your own beverages if you wish or, the hotel will supply you from their bar.
Dombay itself is extremely popular with Russians although it remains to be seen whether the new facilities at Sochi will blunt that popularity. Dombay is a typical, and quaint, skiing location whilst Sochi will draw the international crowd and the "new rich" Russians. However, Dombay should not be overlooked in your plans. It has vast ski fields, numerous lifts, summit facilities and a wealth of apres ski activities. If you want to immerse yourself in the Russian ski scene without the Sochi glitz and crowds, then Dombay is your destination. And the Meridian, is your hotel.
