“Great Place to Stay for Nature and Wildlife”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

I brought our photography group here to take pictures of the Hummingbirds. Little did we know there was so much other wildlife. The staff was great. I asked the owner if I could set up some feeders for the hummingbirds near my room. He said no problem and asked how many feeders I wanted. I did not want to disturb the regular sitting area since I was going to set up strobes and backdrops. The cabins are old and retro looking but we loved them. Each cabin comes with a small 2 burner stove, a small refrig and a TV. If you bring your own DVD's, you can play them on the TV (no Blu-Ray however). You can also get some from the gift shop. There are many hiking trails around as well. There is Wi-Fi there but it is a little slow, no big deal. If staying there, you should bring your own food or drive to Green Valley about 30 minutes away.

Room Tip: We stayed in Casita #10 which has a large patio next to it.

This is a great location for birders. The staff is accommodating and friendly. The cabins need some updating, but the nights were comfortable and cool. There are more comfortable, less expensive places to stay in Green Valley. We stayed in both. For comfort and amenities, I recommend Green Valley. For convenience and birding, the lodge is quaintly suitable.

Stayed for the weekend. Cabin 11. Very Comfortable. Full kitchen, 1 bedroom, living room. large deck to sit out on with a cup of coffee at anytime in the day and birdwatch. Friendly Staff. Looking forward to staying again. WIFI and TV available but wouldn't be too upset if signal is weak. It is ou tin the middle of nowhere! enjoy the wilderness!!

Different types of rooms and cabins but all surrounded by wildlife. If you enjoy relaxing with wildlife, this is the place for you. Accommodations are not fancy but they are clean and comfortable. Slow internet and spotty cell phone service but a wonderful location. It is easiest to buy food in Green Valley to prevent having to drive back and forth when you can be enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

Room Tip: The different rooms/cabins are described in detail on their website. Be sure to look online to sele...

I spent two nights at the Santa Rita Lodge. The entire facility is focused on attracting birds. There are bird feeders outside every room along with a large feeding area open to the public. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Since there are no dining facilities in Madera Canyon it is necessary to bring your own food supplies. Each room is equiped with a mini fridge, microwave and hot plate. They also supply dishes and paper plates. Each room and cabin also has an outdoor grill with charcoal provided. There is a camp store on site to purchase snacks and souvenirs. It was fun staying here and being so close to nature. I would definitely stay there again.

This is my third time visiting Madera Canyon and staying at Santa Rita Lodge as a tag along spouse while my husband photographs Hummingbirds. It's a lovely old rustic lodge with all the amenities you would need for a few days. The cabins/casitas are very comfortable and it's like being thrown back to the 1950's. Very clean and staff nice and helpful. This is a Hummingbird lovers paradise and a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Room Tip: The cabins are larger and some have a separate bedroom and larger kitchens.

This lodge has a location that cannot be beat for incredibly bird watching. They are constantly refilling the hummingbird feeders and seed feeders. Running water fountain which attracts innumerable birds. Very social event to sit and watch-- you meet people from around the world- some locals who are knowledgeable about what you are watching and overall pleasant experience. You must bring your own food to cook since the offerings in the gift shop are limited to pre packed snacks or some refrigerated sandwiches. The location and price are the attractions here.
