We stayed here as a family last weekend. At first blush as you drive in, the hotel resembled a new classroom block. Quite modern and angled, you then drive around the corner and see the original building which is very attractive. Loads of parking. The old blends with the new well. The reception areas are spacious enough and there is a comfy drawing room which leads to a terrace over looking well maintained gardens. We were in the modern block where there's a spa. Rooms were a very good size with a complimentary mini bar (a few treats, some water and a couple of beers but what a nice touch). Wonder why with a room that size they used queen sized instead of king sized. Not possibly the most comfy mattress but overall a decent room. Service and wine prices/ selection were good and the food was enjoyable. Not "high cuisine" but comfort food done well and a decent breakfast included in a very reasonable room rate.
The owner clearly cares about the hotel and restaurant and it shows. The village is small but charming with a couple of pubs and we would recommend a stay here for anyone venturing near Yeovil.
