We called in for a lunch snack and drink today. 31/5/2014. There was no other customers, we asked if they did bar snacks and was offered an A4 sheet with menu of the day which was mainly starters-main course-sweets but they did have a small list of sandwiches at the bottom, my son then commented to us 'we really wanted a pub, didnt we?' to which one of the staff on duty, an elderly lady who was just entering the room retorted 'what is a pub these days? You are rude!' a) my son wasnt talking to her b) he was just making an observation and c) she was the rude one interjecting in our conversation.
They should not be in the Good Pub Guide which is were we got them from. They really need lessons in customer care. We will not be visiting again and wouldnt recommend it.

We popped into the village for a drink as we were staying at the River Garden B&B which was superb. Although it was Friday night, we were the only people there apart from a local who stared at us throughout. From the outset we were given the impression that we were a bit of a nuisance, asking for drinks (in a bar!). We had our first round whilst the landlady and local listened to our conversation then asked for another round. We were amazed to be told that they don't serve drinks once the last of their residents had gone to bed. It was 10.15 and she would not let us have another drink in the bar. I find it difficult to believe that she thought we might be rowdy as we are all (three of us) very middle aged and quiet folk. So we left, thirsty!

Stayed at the Walnut Tree for 3 nights. It is an old favourite, and very handy for RNAS Yeoviton. Nothing is too much trouble and there is a warm welcome. Food is very good as is the service. The rooms are well appointed with free WiFi available.

Room Tip: Somme of the rooms are accessed from the outside. These are the best in my opinion.

If one is travelling up and down the A303 this restaurant is about half a mile off the main road and is substantially better than any of the national fast food stops availoable on most trunk roads. More importantly the service is fast and friendly, the food is good, the value is fair.
I have visited three times over the last few years for both dinner and lunch.

I visited again on the 14th march for lunch, the welcome was warm and friendly, the menue was quite extensive, the service was excellent.
We had a beautifully cooked and presented lunch and drinks and were in and out in 45 minutes. The ambiance was good and the price sensible.

We had a lovely stay apart from the rain! the evening meal was excellent served by a charming young man who was being trained (he will go far!). The cooked breakfast was piping hot & very tasty & arrived quickly. The lady owner was very friendly & made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend the Walnut Tree.

Stayed here after business conference in Yeovil and we were delighted with the food. Small but imaginative menu with excellent wine list. Served by the most delightful attentive staff and the food
was beautifully presented and very tasty. The bill was a surprise as it was so reasonable for what we had, but then I am comparing it with Henley-on-Thames prices!

We stayed overnight in a charming room, however they do need to put towel rails and hooks in the bathroom.
