“Wonderful get away”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

We stayed here for 2 nights this week and it was not long enough!!
What i find and near perfect pub in a "honey pot village" the room we had was stunning with a bathroom which had a free standing bath which i could have swam in - and a double shower - the bed was super king size and we also had a sofa with a lovely silky throw on and knee rug also card table / period wardrobe and dressing table and lamps - the chandleier has a dimmer switch on it and the soft lighting was well done to make the best of the feature wall paper
I loved being able to look out of the window along the road with the village church and the village square the properties and all !!
The breakfast was really quite special smoked salmon crumpets with honey butter and all the usual things - all local produce
The pub was spotless and "felt" well loved the staff all appeared happy and interested in the pub and village and were a font of knowledge ref local walks etc
well done to all - if you want a few days away with a large town such as Yeovil 15 minutes away but want some luxury - peace - views - excellent housekeeping - excellent bar staff then this is very much the place for you

Room Tip: Room 11 has lovely views of the village

Stayed just one night at the King's Arms. Very comfortable but alas the shower head needed a good clean and there was mould on the tiles. Will stay again as room very stylish but will check bathroom first. Pleasant staff, good dinner with excellent steak.

Room Tip: Choose rooms in the main building.

Stayed only 1night ,not enough time .....The inn was adorable felt comfortable and welcoming on arrival. The owners are very friendly and approachable. The room was lovely ,clean and fresh. The owners have worked hard to make it feel like home, decorating and adding nice little touches to rooms . Bed was really comfortable and good soft towels in bathroom and plenty of tea and coffee in room. Breakfast was very tasty especially the sausage and bacon.we will definitely come back ,hopefully for a longer stay next time. The village is beautiful and well worth a visit .

The Kings Arms offers a warm and friendly atmosphere in a relaxing environment. The staff and owners have a positive attitude to making you feel very welcome. The present owners have done an excellent job in turning what used to be an average pub into a very good B&B hotel with fine dining in the restaurant and comfortable surroundings in the bar which has a good selection of beers, wine and spirits. This is definitely a place to return to again and again. Having not used the accommodation I cannot comment, but if it and the service is anything like the bar and restaurant it must be faultless.

The kings arms is the most welcoming inn we have ever visited!!! The staff are lovely and friendly with great service. The decor is suberb in both the rooms and the bar/restaurant. The food was outstanding and very good value! Very much enjoyed our stay and will defiently return in the near future.

The revamped rooms are pleasing to the eye, but ventilation was a problem on a warm night. The staff are helpful and friendly. The food is good, the service appeared a little in need of more experience. The owners were a fount of knowledge. Montacute House is well worth seeing, as is Ham Hill.

Room Tip: Room 11 is the largest, is on the main road, which isn't busy at night. Not a lot of traffic in...

Thank you for your kind review. All comments are very helpful to us and we try to act on them as quickly as possible. Ventilation is something we will definitely be looking into as we refurbish our rooms. We are pleased that you found our staff friendly and helpful. We are still taking on some new members of staff who will hopefully gain more experience working with our regular team. I'm glad you found montacute a beautiful part of the country and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

The Kings arms has recently revamped itself and its image, the first time we visited was a couple of months and the standard has changed significantly since then. The service was the biggest disappointment of the night, there seems to be a lack of table service in this place and the staff seemed quite vacant and aloof. Whilst the food was quite reasonable (although the menu lacking in options) for its price overall it was quite standard fare and nothing to really awaken any taste buds. The bill required amendment due to failures to add a shandy correctly that had previously occurred on the till? I hope this isn’t a projection of the future of the new Kings Arms.

I read your comments with interest. I am sorry you feel the standards have changed, as we try hard at all times to give the best service to all customers and pride ourselves on our friendly and helpful staff. Vacant and aloof is not something I would consider one single member of our staff to be. Each one worked really hard during a very busy bank holiday weekend.
Our menu is changed monthly, offering local and seasonal fare, carefully put together by our chefs with something to please all taste buds.
I am sorry your bill needed amending on a shandy not correctly priced, this seems a very trivial complaint and is something you could have discussed with me at the time. I can assure you this is not a projection of the future of The Kings Arms as we also pride ourselves on our beautiful hotel and surroundings and our aim is to make it a pleasant experience for all of our customers.
