“One of our best beach walks in NZ”
Reviewed 4 April 2014

Make time to go on this walk, you will NEVER forget it! Also, make sure to look at a tide chart so that you can do the walk to the south. High tide blocks access to the trail south at a cliff and DON'T EVEN THINK about trying to go around until the tide is going out. Look for the baby seals playing directly down from the sand dunes. Wander through limestone arches and caves further south. WOW!

“Travel Channel Moment”
Reviewed 1 April 2014 via mobile

When we do sonething on a trip that is amazing, we call it a Travel Channel moment. This beach was a Travel Channel moment for sure. The visitor center advised us to take the clockwise southwesterly path via the small lake to get to the southwesterly part of the beach first and walk up. We were glad we did.

The stroll to get to the beach is relatively nice, buy when you step out of the wooded area and on to the beach, it is breathtaking.

The tide goes out about half a mile, leaving a huge gorgeous beach with occasional clear pools of water, and many giant caves and huge stone arches carved out by the waves. The beach is compacted by the water so it's easy to walk on, and where the waves leave the ground wet, it becomes a mirror reflecting the sunset. And best of all, for a while we were the only ones there as far as we could see.

Definitely worth the drive to go. It was the best beach we've ever seen, and we've seen hundreds of them over many years of extensive travel.

“Perfect beach, baby seals playing”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

A relatively short and unstrenuous walk but absolutely fantastic. Need to time walk to a lowish tide. Arches and rockpools in which baby seals are playing on an idyllic beach. Walk back through green rounded sheep fields.

“Breathtaking”
Reviewed 28 February 2014 via mobile

This is my favourite beach in the whole of New Zealand. We were told to visit it by a local when travelling in a camper and it was simply beautiful.

“Pleasant walk to gorgeous beach”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

Recommended! See the seals on the right hand side of the beach and the holes in the rocks from the left side of the beach (if you are looking at the sea from the land). Amazing at sunset.
