Really warm welcome, with pots of tea and home made cakes. Rooms light ,airy and fabulous views, comfy beds with traditional blankets etc( duvets would be nice). Dinner is of very high standard no choice, however with that sort of quality, presentation and taste you do not need for any other choices, an excellent wine list and their house wines are really good as well.Breakfast is just delightful and sets you up for the day with endless cups of freshly brewed coffee.
Nothing was too much trouble for them, immaculate personal service.
We shall tell eceryone we know and we shall go again 7 agian.
Thanks Philip & Anton you are real stars.

Room Tip: All three rooms are great

Second visit here, first was around 18 months ago. Still a great B&B in a great yorkshire location. Accomodation is really good - very spacious and clean. Hosts are superbly friendly and the food they deliver is spot on. Very good breakfasts, and if you have the evening meals, they are just so good - all done with local produce. Best B&B I have stayed in. Both the homemade marmalade and the home made strawberry jam at breakfast are as good as you could wish.

Room Tip: it is a small B&B with quite big rooms - 3 rooms, so do not expect hotel facilities. But, the home baking for afternoon tea is great, really, you could not ask for more. Two rooms are en-suite and quite large, other room is double bed room with a private bathroon across the coridoor.

This three bedroom hotel is a real gem. Beautiful spacious bedrooms, delightful public rooms, immaculate personal service - and quite excellent food. Whether you are arriving in time for tea and home-made cakes, or tucking in to a marvellous breakfast, both are included within the overnight cost. And try to stay for dinner - a gourmet paradise. We have stayed here a dozen or more times, and never been disappointed. A real six star special.

Room Tip: Each of the rooms is delightful, but I think the nicest room comes with the cheapest of the three, cheaper because the (private) bathroom is just across the corridor.

A warm welcome, comfortable attractive rooms, beautiful view over rolling countryside to the Howardian Hills. We also took advantage during our two night stay of the four course dinners prepared by Philip which provided a rather healthier and more delicious alternative to the pub food we had been experiencing. (Shallowdale also has a surprisingly large and interesting wine cellar) .
Particularly enjoyed the homemade cheese biscuits (Anton?) we were offered with our evening drinks.
All in all Shallowdale was a lovely place to use as our base while visiting some notable local country houses and magnificent abbey ruins.

We decided to treat ourselves to a couple of days break. Shallowdale seemed very suitable. We were not disappointed. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and spacious. Gardens were a delight to browse, great to sit and enjoy an afternoon cup of tea on the patio. All-in-all a delightful experience. We felt although the food was delicious, (it was well presented and cooked). The courses clashed, all very rich in content, and four of them. Making us feel very uncomfortable, after we had eaten them. Maybe some thought could be given when planning the menus for the day. This is only our opinion and suggest at least one/two courses not so rich. The wine list was good. Thank you Anton and Philip for your attention to detail.
