Quiet location within easy reach of local places of interest. The cottage and facilities provided were excellent however the garden wasn't really suitable for very young children we had our grandchildren with us aged 6 months and 2 years old but there is a play area nearby. We enjoyed the complimentary bacon and eggs delivered by the mobile butcher. We thought the cottage was extremely good value for money.
We booked the Yew Tree Cottage for the weekend of our wedding held in nearby Settrington.
We couldn't have been more pleased with the cottage. We received a lovely welcome hamper and the cottage was everything we had expected and more. It's just a shame that we were only there for a short period and didn't get chance to enjoy a BBQ out in the sunshine or have a great big Sunday roast at the dinner table!!
Maybe next time!!
Perfect location. Nice walks from the cottage. Very relaxing holiday. The cottage had everything you would need and was just perfect. It was more like home than a rented holiday cottage. Thank you.
We had a lovely time at this great cottage, which provides an excellent base for exploring North Yorkshire. The kitchen is very well equipped and the rooms are beautifully decorated. The welcome hamper (complete with fresh bacon, eggs and milk as well as some luxuries) is just one example of a number of thoughtful touches that elevate this place above yor average holiday cottage. Our 22-month-old daughter loved playing with the impressive selection of toys and books. The only downside was that we couldn't really use the garden as it had too many hazards for her - but that wasn't a big problem as we enjoyed the short walk across the fields to the playground on the other side of the village. In short, a special little place that we may well return to in future!
Nice cottage but the after care was awful.
We attempted to book the cottage through baby boltholes but when the booking form came through from the owner the price had been increased by nearly £200. As we weren't going to continue the booking Natasha offered us the cottage at a little over the original cost. I'm not sure if the 'discount' led to our later experience.
We Booked the cottage as a toddler friendly cottage and had a very nice week but for a few niggles which we accepted as part and parcel of staying in a rental. However on our return the owners fined us for what was by definition expected wear and tear. They kwithheld over £50 of the damage deposit
They sent pictures (attached)of some handprints on a very small section of wall with an invoice from a London based decorator to redecorate this at a cost £40+. I did not noitice these during or at the end of out stay so cannot be sure that our toddlers didn't make them. However as a toddler friendly cottage I would expect this to classed as fair wear and tear. After various emails were exchanged detailing my concerns I finally received an email to inform me they had cleaned them off after using a magic eraser which I had suggested in our communication. However they still charged £15 to clean the handprints off which they considered additional cleaning, claiming it took an hour to clean.
I was also charged over £10 to replace a bathmat (picture attached). When we arrived the mat was perished and damaged around the area that sat by the plug hole. It was very old and it wasn't the nicest item to use in a bath. However we had to use it for safety as we have toddlers. During the 4 baths the tear grew a lot due to the condition of the mat. We left the mat by the bin for disposal and replacement. However the owners claimed it was in perfect condition prior to our arrival and they hadn't recorded it as damaged on their inventory before I arrived. Therefore they have charged us to replace it. You can see by the damage on the picture that either the mat was perished and should have been replaced on a luxury cottage or the mat has been wilfully damaged. The cottage owners regardless of al my communications have obviously taken the later view.
If you stay ensure you inspect the property and its contents very carefully and report any blemishes or damages on arrival to avoid our experience. Having stayed in a number of luxury family friendly cottages and never experienced any problems before I would not recommend this as a family friendly cottage following this experience.
We have just spent a long weekend with friends at Yew Tree Cottage & how gorgeous it was. The cottage itself has been renovated to a brilliant standard & with a kitchen full of useful items, you need nothing.
With regards decor, Natasha & Paul have fantastic taste. It's brilliantly child friendly too, with travel cots, baby bath, stair gates, etc. all available to use...which really helps not having to pack the kitchen sink when travelling with a baby!
My children are four years & four months & I couldn't have wished to stay anywhere nicer. A real home from home. Very clean. Wonderfully comfy beds. Great history.
The weather was fantastic & the surrounding area is beautiful. Plenty to do & see. The village pub is a stones throw away & served really nice food. The cricket club is also two minutes walk away. A lovely pavilion & great place to watch a game.
