Stayed here at the beginning of June and it was fabulous. A perfect place to enjoy a peaceful Skiathos Island, lovely situation, location, food, room, views, amenities.Great people that made you feel at home. The pool was great . All were outstanding. What made this hotel was the staff Eva Spyros Anastasia and the owner Matoula. They could not do enough for you. The food was excellent I cannot recommend this enough. If you want an idyllic location with a very laid back atmosphere and wonderful staff then here is the perfect holiday.

This hotel is one of the best. Great food, good branded drinks, excellent attentive service (reception/bars/restaurant/house maids).
Very clean rooms. Two lovely pools (private pool only for us).
Make sure you visit the Kivo Greek Creative Cuisine restaurant.
A 5 minute bus ride into Skiathos Town.
We stayed 7 nights, and will return again next year.

I have today returned from the KIvo Hotel with my wife, after spending a week at the hotel.
The first thing to say is if you have booked don’t panic at some of the poor reviews. There definitely seems to have been booking problems as in the week we were there I heard of at least three different couples that had been overbooked. This seemed especially true of people booking via Expedia
.
The Kivo is set high on a hill above Skiathos with a great views across the bay to the port and a number of islands.

It is about 20 Euros from the airport to the hotel or the hotel will pick you up and drop you off. 10 Euros into town although the hotel does run a courtesy bus.

As for the hotel itself it is so nearly the finished article that it is a shame it is let down by so many small fixable things, none of them in themselves seem that significant in the scheme of things but all add up.
Things like
Bedroom curtains that don’t match our room 222
Bits if door frame missing
Only two glasses in your room, that don’t match and are not changed all week.
A fridge that looks so it should be a mini bar that had water in it the first day then never again.
A range of faded un-matching towels for use by the pool.
Sun loungers that are rickety with stained cushions on them
A cocktail list at the bar but none of the ingredients to make the various cocktails.

As I said a host of small things and I could add more.

The staff are great, as for people complaining about the hotel bus into town; it is a courtesy bus, so if it is full get another drink and wait for the next one. Whenever we asked for the bus it was made available and we were not charged additionally for this service.
Migelis (sorry if I have spelt that wrong) at the bar in the evening was great he even made a decent Cosmopolitan until he run out of cranberry juice and quantro, so hats off to him for trying a great assets to the hotel very friendly.

One thing to watch out for is on the last but one day we were all told that the credit card machines was not working and we would have to pay with cash. I queried this and was told they had a manual credit card machine so I could pay by card.

Bearing in mind I have seen this same thing reported on tripadvisor since early May one can’t help but wonder if this hotel has some form of cash flow problems?

This may explain the lack of finishing touches for this season. IT looks like they have spent all the money employing a top notch chef and forgotten they are actually running hotel as well.

I will review the restaurant separately but it was very good food.
Skiathos itself is a small island a number of beaches and restaurant / tavernas around the harbor. Prices are about the small as the UK for drinks a large beer being about 4 Euros and a half litre of house wine around the 5.5 Euro price range.

Personally in June it was quite busy and I think if I visited more into the season it would be too busy and commercial for me, but I had a lovely break with my wife and an enjoyable week.

Room Tip: A top floor room is a must for the view 222 or there abouts is good.

It's hard to know where to start with Kivo as it has so much potential. At the beginning of our trip we should have been picked up at the airport but there was no one there to meet us, our flight was delayed an hour although they had our flight details so could have checked.

We had paid extra for a room which was described as a sea view but were allocated a room which was like a basement room with a concrete box for a balcony which got no sun. On complaining we were told the hotel was full but they could move us the following day for an extra €300. At the time we were considering paying it but then checking online we could have got a hotel in a better location in town and the hotel had already moved other guests free of charge. After standing our ground we were moved the following day but it ruined the start of our holiday and we were there to celebrate our anniversary.

Location: the hill is very steep and it is not really possible to walk anywhere. You are reliant on the shuttle bus which can be busy and only goes at certain times of the day. Personally if you have been out all day I think 7pm can be early to go out for dinner but there is no later shuttle which leaves you getting a €10 taxi which can add to the cost of the holiday. In the end we hired a car to give us the flexibility.

Accommodation: definitely not 4 star, room was infested with ants and despite raising it a number of times, nothing was done. Towels we threadbare, bed was broken and taped up noisy fridge, broken phone (which rang intermittently through the night and had to be unplugged) and mismatched furniture.

Room service : there was an extensive room service menu yet when we tried to order anything were told they didn't do room service.

Food: expensive and hit and miss. Had a couple of excellent dishes but also paid €14 for what was like a plate of super noodles. The food is skiathos was fantastic but kivo was one of the most expensive places and didn't measure up to places we ate in town.

Generally the hotel was badly organised and despite them encouraging us to charge things to the room, I chose to keep this to a minimum as I didn't trust them to get the bill right. Sure enough we saw several couples challenging items on their bills. When it came time to check out, it turned out they couldn't accept card payments and we had to travel into town to withdraw money from the bank, glad we hadn't charged more than we did to the room!

Overall, the Kivo is a hotel with a great view and has so much potential. It would be better marketing itself as a good quality 2star hotel and people's expectations would be met. When you turn up expecting a 4 star boutique hotel you will be sorely disappointed.

Room Tip: If you choose to stay here ask for an Aegean view room.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday based at the Kivo Art and Gourmet, many thanks to the wonderful staff who couldn't do enough for us and this was echoed from other guests we met there. It's a small hotel which apparently has been recently taken over by new management, it does appear that double booking has happened but we were not affected however I can sympathise as we met a couple who had also been double booked and were put up in a substandard hotel. Although we were B&B the lunches we had were very good especially the fresh sea food salad. Breakfast is excellent with a chef to cook your preference to order with plenty of choice. I would say that the Hotel looks a tad tired and an injection of money to spruce the rooms including the bathroom would have huge benefits however this would not stop us from returning. I would recommend you take plenty of hangers for your clothes as the drawer space is limited. The shuttle bus service is excellent and again the drivers are very accommodating if you need them outside the bus timetable. We would definitely return to the hotel as overall its location, pool views and wonderful staff are a credit to the hotel - thank you to all the staff at KIvo your manager should be very proud of you all!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room numbers 200 onwards as these have superb sea views although every room does face the...

Arrived to be told no room booked despite confirmation from Expedia/Our travel agent.Manageress blamed Expedia and proceeded to dump us in an apart hotel miles away and certainly not 4star.It is obvious from previous reviews that this hotel could not care a damn about the upset that they cause holidaymakers. It is vital that travellers do not patronise hotels that behave in this manner. This shower obviously have this off to a fine art.The more I think about this the more convinced We are that we have had a narrow escape.I am going to make it my business to ensure that We are reimbursed for every penny of the difference between their charges and the place they deposited us (which was considerable)YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Room Tip: Did not get allocated a room

What a beautiful gem of a hotel the Kivo is. The views are spectacular! The quirky boutique style hotel is just so welcoming. Every member of staff was so pleasant and polite making sure that our stay was both relaxing and met our expectations. We had booked B&B and the breakfast was a real banquet with the variety of food on offer. You could not fail to be impressed. The rooms were well equipped and all had individual decore. We were very well looked after and it felt like you were part of one big family there. We were even given a gift on departure. We will be back for sure, Thank you!.

Room Tip: Request a first floor room to get the best sea views.
