“Stunning!”
Reviewed 3 February 2014

San Antonio is a welcoming haven of elegant relaxation - unlike any hotel we've ever been in - the personalised but discreet service makes you feel as if you're the only guest in a stunning mansion retreat. The huge rooms with lush interiors, candles and fireplace and giant Moroccan style step in bath is perfect for a romantic retreat. We spent relaxing mornings walking through the gardens, orchards, coffee plantations and woodlands, and in the afternoon sipped margaritas by the pool. Nearly all the food is grown organically on site or at the sister property, Cuixmala - including the cheese and the coffee. You are spoilt for choice at breakfast on the terrace with an interesting mix of Mexican and European a la carte selections along with pastries, fresh made bread and tropical fruits. You won't want to eat lunch, but you can dine by the pool or as in our case one afternoon - the service staff anticipated our needs and offered a complimentary selection of home made cheese. In the evening we wandered into the billiards room and played pool, and then into one of three or four library/sitting rooms. There is also a huge roof terrace and two TV rooms (not that we found time to watch TV). This is truly an amazing experience and perfect for a special occasion with your loved one or a retreat away with a group of friends / wedding party.

Room Tip: All the rooms are fantastic, huge, quiet and with balcony views on four sides

From start to finish, I couldn't be forced to even find criticism with anything. Wonderful place to visit with family or for a sneaky weekend away.........highly recommend! There really are so many activities.......one can just relax or have an action packed get away!

Room Tip: Had a look at a few rooms and the only problem was which was better! All really very very nice!

The entire experience at the Hacienda was so unique and impressive, we'll be comparing it to future destinations for years to come, but not sure if anywhere else will measure up. It's a large property but with a small amount of rooms, you feel like you're the guest at someone's private mountain estate. The Hacienda boasts plazas, gardens, fountains and aqueducts, large lawns and pools, view decks and enormous suites. And the surrounding country is another treat: volcano views, huge bamboo forests, quiet meadows and peaceful lagoons. Truly one of a kind, this may be your most memorabel destination ever....

Room Tip: all rooms have good views. Some face the sunrise and volcano view, the others face the sunset

Regal, casual, elegant, cool, historical, fun - with a nice dose of mystical. The place is almost in motion - like the waters of the ancient aqueduct that runs through the property and in and out of the hotel itself. And always the belittling and awesome presence of the smoke snorting 5,000 foot Volcan de Fuego. Never really been to another place like it.

Service was outstanding. The grounds immaculate. I could sit at the pool forever.

Rooms were large and beautifully appointed. Ours looked out to the rear hotel grounds and down to the pool area. Beautiful sunsets. The bathrooms were really cool though it was a little awkward getting in and out of the massive tub/shower area. But that was hardly noticeable in the context of the beautiful, large, tiled and impeccably clean space.

And the complimentary bottle of tequila, made on the property, was perfect.

Expensive, and worth every penny. Food was excellent. This is a one of a kind property. Really great for a small intimate group or for a totally private time with someone special.

Strongest recommendation.

(Would suggest working on improving consistency of Internet access in the hotel and on the grounds...)

About 6 months ago I invited 40 plus close friends and family to The Hacienda to celebrate a big birthday. We all descended on this magical spot from at least 8 locations around the world, hoping for a memorable few days, and we were not disappointed - in fact we were literally blown away by the experience and everything about this jaw dropping property.

The Hacienda de San Antonio is one of the coolest and most unique hotels I have ever stayed in. From the beginning everything was literal perfection - the upper deck where we spent the first night's drinks and dinner has a remarkable feel to it and a great view of the active volcano - then we went inside for after dinner cocktails by a roaring fireplace. The magnificent pool has gardens and hills surrounding it and an atmosphere of utter peace. The staff arranged a private picnic for us in a field within view of roaming horses, a lake and the stunning volcano. The rooms are grand, comfortable, and have fireplaces that the staff will light for you. Our final dinner was in a magnificent room accented mainly with volcanic rock (but in grand Hacienda style with massive fireplaces and ridiculously attentive service). From beginning to end our stay was one, big, long and joyous WOW.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Can I put an extra star on here?

Room Tip: ask for a view of the volcano! and make sure to ask to have a fire built...

What a fantastic property! It has to be the most beautiful hacienda in Latin America . Impeccably maintained, with top notch service, in a beautiful setting near an active volcano. Almost everything is locally grown or raised.

Room Tip: Room 6 is light and airy. Very romantic.

Hacienda de San Antonio is one of the most amazing places I've ever visited. The Hacienda is a beautiful, old plantation house that has been lovingly restored and preserved by Alix and Goffredo Marcaccini. Coming here, you are transported back to an earlier time. The rooms are elegant and wonderful. The food and service are divine. The pool is the largest I've ever seen. The gardens are immaculate. La Hacienda is still a working coffee plantation and ranch. The riding is spectacular. Our morning ride was followed by the most luxurious picnic that we enjoyed on carpets and pillows in the middle of a gorgeous field looking up on the smoking volcano that dominates the northern skyline. To be here is to experience a kind of luxury that exists only in the imagination. We will definitely be coming back.
