“Better than Boulders Beach”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

Betty's Bay is situated on a wonderful scenic drive along the coast between Hermanus and Cape Town, and a visit to the Penguin colony makes a great break in the journey. Fantastic value for money!

“South African Penguins ~ Best Place Stony Point!”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

Having been to The Boulders a few years ago, I was interested in seeing the South African Penguins in a different environment. I found it far superior to the mass crowds at The Boulders.

The penguins were starting to mate and we saw quite a bit of activity! There were penguins just beginning to lose their fur, a few fluffy ones, and lots of adults. The big surprise was the number of cormorants on the rocks along with the penguins. There were also hyrax living in the sandy, rocky soil, mostly close to the parking lot. They remind me of gerbils as they sit and eat or watch you trying to take their picture.

There is a very small price to pay to enter the boardwalk for a leisure stroll to the end. There were penguins on each side of the boardwalk, some very close. It is easy to take photos, even if you don't have a large camera.

We didn't have any trouble finding parking or locating Stony Point. It was a windy, over-cast day that kept the smell to a minimum and made for excellent viewing.

I would highly recommend Stony Point over The Boulders, having been to both.

“Just love these dudes!”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

We love going to see the penguins - and old and young have a great time, so close to the dudes and dudettes. take the time and watch what they get up to! It is a must to visit by taking the scenic route from Gordons Bay to Hermanus. Nice new facilities - which just lends to the good experience.

“Forget Boulders Bay - this is THE place to see penguins!”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

Surely the best value attraction in South Africa. For a mere 10 Rand (approximately 60p) you can wander along the boardwalk, inches away from 6,000 African Penguins and thousands of cormorants, not forgetting the dassies sunbathing on the rocks.

If you there during the penguin mating season, March-April, you will hear the braying and understand why these little chaps were formerly known as Jackass Penguins!

“Well worth the stop”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

Quiet secluded way to see these guys in their natural habitat albeit you must stay on the viewing walkway. Allow time to fully appreciate their behaviour. Very good value and much quieter than 'boulders penguin reserve' in Simons town although that does have a comprehensive cafe shop and toilet facility
