With it being a surprise weekend away to Taiharuru Lodge I had no expectations and having never really explored the north of the north I was surprised at how close it was to Auckland and yet you could be a million miles away. Arriving at night in the dark and waking up to the stunning view was only the first of many amazing moments during our weekend away. We couldn't have asked for better hosts in Grant & Raewyn knowing that they had thought of every last detail to make our stay one to remember. I know we will be back and recommending this hidden treasure to our family and friends.

Truly one of New Zealand’s best kept secrets. The perfect place to get away and celebrate a special occasion in pure luxury! We made the easy 2.5hr trip from Auckland late Friday afternoon. Stocked up at the New World in Whangarei, then made the short trip out to the Guesthouse. One word - Wow! What a stunning place and setting. Grant & Raewyn were the ultimate hosts, they even had the fire roaring way as we entered the Guesthouse. Being our first time to the area we wanted to explore, highlights included morning runs up Kauri Mountain (40min return) & the length of Ocean beach (approx 5-6km long - 5min drive away) and a special walk up Mt Manaia (20min drive from the lodge). The area certainly is a runner/walker’s paradise! If you have time make sure you book in for dinner at Topsail Restaurant right on the water back close to Whangarei - Debbie & Ian certainly looked after us and the food was amazing. We are looking forward to our return trip to continue exploring and maybe even get out for some fishing or a spot of shore diving from their private beach.

My partner and I spent our 24th Wedding Anniversary at Taiharuru Farm and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it and were very sad to leave. I must say this is one of the very best places we have stayed with unbeatable, stunning views over the ocean out to the islands. It is a very well appointed two story guesthouse with a fantastic lounge and a fireplace well stocked with timber. The views from the main bedroom equally stunning for sleepin's. The little cove below the guesthouse was a favorite and I returned every morning to see it in the diiferent lights, tides and swells. The view from the gate up the top of the property to the surrounding area North is spectacular and well worth the climb. To our delight we did catch up with Raewyn on our last morning and found her to be a terrific and pleasant host with plenty of local knowledge. It is going to be hard to top this for a 25th Anniversay unless we come back. I highly recommend Taiharuru which is great value. Thanks again Raewyn and Grant for sharing this wonderful place with us. We have told our friends and we will be back soon. Tony and Fi H

My wife and I enjoyed what became our "second honeymoon" when we stayed at Taiharuru Farms Lodge while commissioning our beautiful NZ built sailboat nearby. Not only were the accommodations beyond our expectations, the setting, the views and the flora and fauna were nothing short of spectacular. More importantly, the hosts of this spectacular guest home are truly exceptional Kiwi's who have become our great friends. We so loved our experience at Taiharuru Farms and in NZ that we took our family of six back to NZ during the Christmas holidays. We live in one of the garden spots of the world in Newport Beach, California and enjoy spectacular resorts such as the Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton or Montage on our coastline. My wife and I kept saying that we felt as though we were staying at one of these fine resorts except that we had the whole place to ourselves including our own private jewel of a cove with killer whales patroling and best yet, we had the opportunity to get to know an amazing host couple who became fast friends. We are fortunate to have traveled the world and Taiharuru Farms Lodge is among the fondest memories of our 20 years together. I completely agree with the other reviewers and can honestly and without reservation recommend this special place in the world for either couples or families. NZ is perhaps the friendliest place on earth with wonderful peoples of extraordinary history and a natural beauty in the land that makes one reminisce about what California was like 100 years ago. We will most certainly find ourselves back in the arms of Taiharuru Farms again! Edward C

The Guest house was very well presented when we did the booking, however once you are there it's just breathtaking! The icing on the cake was the sighting of hunting orcas right from the breakfast table out in the bay.
This extraordinary stay with all the many things we could do and see together with the warmest hospitality will be one of our top highlights on our 2,5 months trip in NZ.
We hope Raewyn and Grant will further enjoy having guests, which thoroughly do appreciate the value of this outstanding little paradise.

Our family of four has just returned from our second holiday at Taiharuru Farms Lodge and already we want to return. The house has everything you could want and more, the views are breathtaking and the hospitality extended by the owners friendly and welcoming. It had been our intention to take some day trips but there was so much to do at the lodge - kayaking in the idyllic cove (in kayaks provided free of charge by our hosts), bushwalking, clambering over the rocks and exploring nearby beaches - that we ended up just not wanting to travel further afield.

A perfect holiday. I'm sure we'll be back again.
