This location and accommodation exceeded out expectations - far more impressive than the website would have you believe.

We loved:
Quiet location, away from the crowds and close to nature
Incredible and stunning sea views from the master bedroom, kitchen, dining, living and deck areas
Comfortable outdoor and indoor living areas with plenty of room to spread out
Fully equipped kitchen for self catering (and we did cook a Christmas roast!)

Extra touches:
Great starter basket of goodies including a local wine for us
Raewyn put up a large Christmas tree and tasteful decorations for us
They left a lovely local Christams present under the tree for us

We were apprehensive when booking about having our own privacy, but while the owners house is "close-ish", they left us to our own devices, while still offering a social element if we chose.

I also have to add that this was THE CLEANEST property we have ever stayed in!!

We did hear Kiwi's (both male and female) call during three nights we were there, which was a delight!

Overall - I think this property is excellent value for money - it's first class, amazingly maintained with stunning views.

Room Tip: The master bedroom has a huge window seat looking out to the headland and islands beyond!

As you leave the main highway on the approach to Taiharuru you get an immediate feeling of relaxation and well being. Then you see the main house and Guesthouse come in to view and you get a feeling of luxury! Then you hear Raewyns welcoming voice on the gate intercom and you know this is going to be a great weekend! The Guesthouse is warm, super comfortablewith a touch of opulence but without being pretentious. Stunning views appear in every window, ocean, countryside and Taiharuru garden. A pretty pebbly beach at the bottom of a fairly steep path is all yours and there's a lovely walk up to the top of the property where the vista is breathtaking and meander down through the native garden that Grant and Raewyn have painstakingly planted. Self catering but with extra little touches like fresh farm eggs and a lovely bottle of wine, friendly hosts for whom no request is too much trouble, lots of walks in the area, reasonably priced for the standard of accommodation What more could you want only a couple of hours from bustling Auckland. It's well worth the drive

We had a fabulous weekend with friends.
Accomodation and hosts were equally fabulous.
The guest house is perfect. Clean, great views, we'll equipped, fresh flowers. and more.
Raewyn and Grant delightful hosts.
The scenery is something else and to hear kiwi's calling in the night was special.
Would highly recommend a weekend/ week ( or more) at Taiharuru Lodge.
Mt Manaia  was a challenging but worthwhile walk.
Thank you Greg & Penny

Great accommodation with stunning view, very hospitable owners and loved the stay. The house is well equipped for cooking all your own food. Great area to explore and we climber Mt Manaia and loved big surf at Ocean Beach.

We were lucky enough to stay in this fantastic house for 12 nights in February. From the moment we drove over the top of the hill and saw the house and private beach in front of us we could see this place was special. This house is 5-star hotel quality down to the fresh cut flowers in the living room. Every room was spotlessly clean and the owners, Raewyn and Grant have thought of everything, including freshly baked bread on our arrival and a very welcome bottle of champagne on my birthday. Views from the house over the bay are spectacular. It is impossible not to relax here. We honestly can't think of anything that we would change. We will be back here as soon as we can. A great experience!

The best accommodation I even stayed. The house is Luxury, clean and makes you feel like home. My wife and friends really enjoy the stay. Not only the house, there is a private beach at the bottom of hill, 5 minutes walk way of guest house. Owner provides all kinds of beach toys you can imagine, snorkeling gears, surf board, 4 kayaks etc… We stay there only for two days which defiantly too short for us! Wish comes back here next time for a week long stay.

5 star family friendly accommodation, beautifully appointed, best view in New Zealand.
Private beach with equipment for kayaking, paddle-boarding, snorkelling supplied - absolutely fantastic. We kayaked with a dolphin pod, snorkelled and swam in the bay and fished with great success off the rocks.
Great coffee and food in local towns Parua bay and The Deck in Whangarei Heads/Mcleod Bay.
Grant and Raewyn were perfect hosts.
We will be definitely return visitors.
Overall: faultless.
