“A must when at Baylys Beach”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

This little gem of a restaurant is fantastic. Trish at the caravan park recommended it and we'd also read about it in Lonely Planet. The food was sensational and the portions were big. We thought we'd ordered too much but it was so yummy we ate everything. It offers a varied menu and the staff are friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

“Absolutely amazing, ate so much, struggled to move”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

We went to the Funky Fish on recommendation from the Sunset View Lodge. The meal was absolutely amazing, so much so, we could not have possibly said no to dessert and after the short walk back to Sunset View, we were struggling to move.

The menu offers a wide choice of variety. The interior is very quirky and booking is an absolute must.

This restaurant will always remain special to us, as we got engaged the evening of this meal

“Best place around”
Reviewed 26 July 2013

We dined here when visiting a relative who lives locally. We found friendly service, a great atmosphere and good food. Being the only place in Baylys Beach it could rest on its laurels but they really do make an effort and we're glad we called in and dined here.

Popped out to the Funk Fish Cafe at Baylys Beach last Saturday for brunch.
Great food, I had kahawai fish cafes and he had fish and chips.
Always great food.

“Fabulous atmosphere”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

As this is the only restaurant in Baylys Beach, we thought we'd give it a go. And we were pleasantly surprised. The meals were city quality (and city prices actually) .... but well worth it.

I had the Mustard Herb Crusted Lamb Chops ($27.00), and they were divine! Hubby had the Beef Burger ($18.00) and was just as happy as I. We also tried some local (NZ) cider and beers which were recommended by the lady at the bar - and these were also nice.

The atmosphere in this place is lovely. It has quirky decor, which gives you plenty to look at. We went in mid-winter so there weren't many people about, just a few locals having drinks ... so the service was excellent. Not rushed, but prompt and very friendly. We ate in the restaurant bit, but still didn't feel isolated as it is open plan and adjacent to the bar. Found it particularly friendly and welcoming having the bar cat sitting on a stool in the bar.

I would totally recommend if you are in the neighborhood.
