We had a marvelous two nights here, off season in May. The unit was charming, comfortable, and spotless; the hosts very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended, if you want something out of the way, very well presented, and central in Northland. Lovely outlook on the Whangaroa harbour.

Room Tip: Unit 5 is very spacious, with 2 bdms (queen, 2 twins) and a twin in the living area.

Whangaroa is a tiny village but hosts some of the best fishing locations imaginable.
The Lodge Motel is located in a elevated position above the two main commercial operations in the village , the Hotel & the Game fishing Club & fabulous marina. It is a 2 to 3 minutes walk to everything & has magnificent views out over the marina & waterways.
The Motel rooms are fresh & clean & the owners friendly & attentive service is first class.
The information they provide on local attractions is accurate & most helpful. We cannot fault the rooms , facilities, the service etc , but the location is EXCEPTIONAL.

Room Tip: because accommodation is very scarce in the area & because this site is so good , talk to the ow...

One of the best motels we have stayed in. Fabulous views, immaculately clean, comfortable beds with good linen and very recently tastefully updated. Really a 5 star stay. There are plenty of things to do in the area - a great place to stay for a week or just overnight.

We are the owners of Sandy Beach Resort in Tonga, therefore not only guests but also hospitality colleagues and critical observers .
We would like to recommend Whangaroa Lodge Motel to everybody who travels up this way.
Clean and superbly maintained rooms with love to every detail !

We (family of 4) travelled over Christmas 2012 and staid at Whangaroa on our way to a campground further up in the far north. We consider ourselves very lucky to have chosen this place and wish to thank Derek and Sheryl for their fantastic hospitality.
Everything was perfect and I honestly did not expect this level of accommodation in this area.
Thank you !
For dinners go down to the game fishing club and get your fix of fish and chips;-) yummy !

Room Tip: From what I have seen all rooms are equally well equipped and maintained. Upstairs obviously gives...

Superb overnighter in Whangaroa, off the beaten track but a jewel in the crown. Tranquil (off season) comfortable and great value for money. The view from the room across the bay was simply paradise. For rest and relaxation this place came tops from the 15+ hotels/B&Bs we visited during our three week tour of the North Island. Deffo recommende - you will not be disappointed.
For those with a more adventurous streak there is also St Pauls hill to the rear of the property (More a mini mountain and a great scramble to the top where the view was simply fantastic).
