Toronto North Cookstown KOA

Well first of all we've been staying at this campground for about 3 years now, we always book 12 or more sites as we play sports in that area. The young owners are very nice and accommodating but the older staff members however are not so friendly. This last time which was last weekend, they were complaining about the dog barking, not commenting on the domestic going on the lot next to us. Those poor kids and husband. Wow! The camp patroller, never told the barking chiwawas to stop, at least I pick up after my dog. And what does it matter which way you part your trialer. Really. Apparently you can't face your friends. My recommendation, if it's such a family oriented camp let the kids play. My 11 year old and his friends got in trouble because they wanted to go in the games room. They gave my 15 year and his friends trouble because they were sitting at the playground, unsupervised. Hire some friendlier staff. It's not a concentration camp.

My family does a camping trip every summer and as part of out 30th anniversary for camping, we wanted to try something new.... camping in Canada! We went with KOA because we have camped at a few of their sites in the US.

What I thought was nice...
-The campsite was small, but "cozy."
-The staff was VERY kind and they always had a smile, positive attitude and were very accommodating.
-The location was great and it was easy to feel like you were away in the woods, but then could easily travel to downtown Toronto to do some activities. (Not a short drive, but our family would drive to the subway and take it from there).

What was not so nice...
-The bathhouse in the center of the campsite, closest to our camping area, had only 2 showers and 3 bathrooms (1 men, 1 women, 1 handicapped). While the campsite is small, this definitely did not suffice. There were often lines waiting for the bathroom and shower. There were more bathrooms and showers in the front of the campground next to the store....
-While the campsite itself appeared cleanly, there were often days when there was trash in the bathrooms and one time there was a big wad of hair left in the shower...eeeek! Now, I do understand that this is camping and people make messes, etc, but this was pretty often.

Overall, I enjoyed the trip because it was fun to be with family and easy to leave the site and explore Toronto. (BTW- If you’re going to explore Toronto, I suggest the drive to the subway, head downtown, and buy a citypass to explore the attractions. Also, if you are like us and forget anything, there is a Wal-mart one or two exits up from camp lol)

We chose KOA North Toronto as we wanted somewhere close to home (Markham, ON) and fun for our 2-year old to have his first camping experience. The reviews and camp features were what instantly attracted us.

The staff are friendly, the entire campground incredibly clean and well kept, the facilities good, the pool sparkling clean, and the security top-notch (near constant patrolling by staff in golf carts).

This is a family campground first and foremost -- we didn't experience overly loud music, drunkenness, or partying while we were there. Parents' were comfortable enough to let their kids play unattended (just like when we were kids!).

The one and only slightly negative thing I can say is that you may want to consider choosing a regular tent spot rather than a "back-in" if you're in a tent as they feature dividing fences for more privacy. However, you'll obviously lose electricity and water access, so it's a subjective decision.

We were there as part of group for 3 nights. Campground is very big and clean. Camp sites are a good size. I especially like the fact that quiet hour is 10 pm to 8 am and this place was very quiet. It was amazing considering it was full all weekend. Right across the road is an outlet mall and the ladies spent 5 hours there on the Saturday afternoon and then the men went to the race track that night. There is a Harvey's/Swiss Chalet in the parking lot. Cookstown is only 5 min over the bridge and they have a liquor store, grocery store and Tim Horton - what more can you ask for.

This campground is great. It is really clean, the water/electric and tent sites were all grassy. There was also a treeline behind the sites which provided a bit of privacy. It was very quiet, no loud parties late at night and the staff were excellent. There was a small convenience store and lots of activities for the kids. Outdoor movie on Friday nights and there were 2 pools, a small splash pool and a larger pool for swimming which was really clean. The bathrooms and showers were also quite clean. It was approx a 35 min drive to Toronto and there is an outlet mall within a 5 min drive.

I spent father's day weekend with my kids. It was an amazing experience, so quiet, so peaceful, so many activities for the kids, very safe and most of all, the grounds, facilities and cabins were spotless clean!

The staff was super friendly and so warm and welcoming. It was our first time camping, me and my three kids and it's now going to be one of our family traditions every father's day.
