There are not a lot of eating establishments at Waihi Beach, so when we spotted the sign on the street we thought we'd take a look. But, then we nearly didn't spot the gate to the Secret Garden - it really is quite secret! A sign on the gate invited us to come in, so we gingerly peeked through the gate and were instantly enchanted. A semi-wild garden with curved paths leading around to the tables, lovely music (a woman with guitar, busking), multiple choices for where to sit (on cushions, at a table, on a bench) and just one evening meal option - a platter. My favourite! Coffee, muffins and cake were also available. All the food and cutlery was bio-degradable and the wine served in small plastic clear cups. So, 'cheap and cheerful', but we had a lovely evening.
