The Plough Inn at Ford

Didn't stay, just grabbed a bite to eat on a Friday night after hearing a few recommendations for this place in the Cotswold forum. Husband enjoyed the steak pie and I enjoyed my filet steak. When I ordered, I asked for chips instead of new potatoes and gave up after attemping to explain myself 3 times. Should have had vegetables with our order and almost 10 minutes after the steak arrived, I asked about them. The veg that was waiting in the kitchen all this time was brough out to us - almost cold and when we were 3/4 of the way through our meal.

Typical of pubs in the Cotswolds - retaurant prices and pub service. In this case, waiting staff have a particularly poor grasp of English and and even poorer grasp of basic service.

I won't be back.

Thank you for your feedback. We do our best to recruit and train staff to our high standards. Sadly, not every new member of staff makes it & a good command and understanding of English is one of our staff requirements. Since your visit we take extra pains to get this right 100% of the time

We were recommended the Plough by a lady my wife and I met on a plane to Nimes. She is a regular racegoer and uses the Plough on her visits to Cheltenham Racecourse.
The Pub is directly opposite 'Jackdaws Castle', Jonjo O'Neal's racing stables and every morning we watched from our bedroom window the horses under his care being exercised on the gallops.
The Plough is run by a young staff who were pleasant and welcoming.
The three rooms are named after racehorses and ours, Arkle, was, although quite small, perfectly adequate ,well decorated, very comfortable and well appointed, with flat screen TV, tea-making facilities, hair dryer, shower robes etc. The food was absolutely first class and the restaurant is very busy with locals so we would advise booking.
For beer drinkers, there are two brands of very excellent ale from the Donnington Brewery which is just down the road.
To sum up, it is an extremely pleasant place to stay, near many places of interest, accommodation is good, food excellent, they do a 4 for 3 night offer and with food and drink the four days we spent there cost £350.

We stayed at the Plough Inn at Ford in the Cotswolds for two nights in December 2007. We chose it because we had eaten a splendid Sunday lunch there last time we were in the Cotswolds, and we noticed the accommodation was rated 4 stars by the AA. Our trip this time was disappointing - the food was very good again, but the accommodation, although nicely decorated, was too small to be comfortable. But for us the biggest downside were the locals - they were not only decidedly unfriendly, a couple were downright hostile. Verdict: fine to pop in for a meal, but not for a weekend. And stay out of the public bar - you won't be welcome!

It's sad to read that you appeared to have been met by unfriendly locals. We are normally a friendly bunch in the Cotswolds. Do come and try us again, I am sure you will be welcomed by all
