“Accommodation in the Cotswolds”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

My wife and I stayed at the Plough in Ford last week for two nights and we must say how good the food is.
We were lucky enough to be able to bring our aging dog with us and Craig and his team couldn't do enough for us. The room was large enough for the dog to feel happy while we dined, later we were allowed to bring him into the bar were locals and other guests didn't seem to mind.
The position of the pub makes it very easy to explore all of the Cotswolds and as we visit this area a lot we will now always try to stay here.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Warm welcome by all the staff. Great food - huge portions, good value for money. Nice touches in the rooms such as bath robes, toiletries, and deck chairs. Seeing the racehorses on the gallops from the windows an added bonus. Great walks and scenery nearby. Would recommend.

My wife and I eat and drink here every time we are in the Cotswolds, but recently we stayed for two nights on our way to and back from Cornwall.
The rooms we had were comfortable and clean. The bathroom in the first room (Desert Orchid) was small, but this was compensated by the lovely view across to Jonjo O'Neill's gallops. The second room we stayed in (Red Rum) was smaller, but the bathroom was bigger. The beds in both rooms were comfortable, which is always a big plus.
We ate in the pub both nights, and as usual the service and food was of a very high standard. The breakfasts were excellent.

Room Tip: Desert Orchid, for the view.

Very atmospheric pub, (we didn't eat in the TV room) food was well above surrounding pub standards, and the staff knew what they were doing and we're very helpful when our taxi driver advised us that he couldn't collect us on a bank holiday Monday night! If you had enough of the sub standard pub food offered in most of the pubs around here, this is your antidote.

Stayed at Temple Guiting Barn for the weekend and walked to The Plough Inn for a couple of drinks. It was full of people eating Sunday Lunch and the food looked fab...infact the chef had made too much roast beef / Yorkshire puds & roast potatoes so at the end of serving he left a huge tray of food in the bar for us to help ourselves ! Very yummy !! When we couldn't get a taxi to go back to the Barn the landlord even offered to drive us back in his car...incredible !! Would definitely go back and next time would book for lunch.

As a local I like to support local businesses and decided to visit The Plough having not been for a while.
I have decided to write this review because although the food is always very good, generous and freshly prepared, I am always disappointed by the lacklustre, indifferent 'welcome' by the landlord. I noticed however that those who were obviously frequent customers were greeted enthusiastically and he was very friendly, even showing them to tables unlike us. It would encourage to return if he extended this type of greeting to all customers...we're all spending money!!!

Thank you for your review. We do try to greet every customer equally. It may have been that this day was one where some friends not seen for a long time came to visit. Next time we will try harder

The Plough was recommended by a friend and I'm so glad we stayed here. We were made to feel very welcome from the start. We were given the key to our room much earlier than the check in time. So sensible. The inn is a beautiful old building with beams, flagstone floors and log fires. Lovely little nooks and crannies and comfortably furnished.
The food served at both breakfast and dinner was plentiful and first class.
Our room was comfortable with views over the gallops. We were treated to the horses from Jonjo O'Neil's stables on their daily exercise on the Monday morning.
All of the staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient.
Special thanks to Alex, who is really proud of the pub, it's history and it's links with the equestrian world. He looked after us throughout our stay. Thank you.

Room Tip: If you're not into horse racing, avoid going at a time when big races are on throughout the coun...
