My hubby and I stopped in at Mbotyi River Lodge, we had not booked a room but enquired about having a meal. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Everyone made us feel very welcome. The atmosphere was awesome with the fire place in the dining room. We had the set dinner menu and it was great, very tasty. We will definitely be going back to stay.

This would have to be one of the most beautiful spots on the Wild Coast. We were here as scuba divers to follow the Sardine Run. The accommodation was spacious and spotlessly clean with the plus of amazing views if you get one of the front locations. There is a fridge and tea and coffee making in the room.We were in one of the front rooms with our balcony overlooking the ocean. The staff were so accommodating and friendly it only added to the place. The diving room has a large log fire so when the mornings are cooler it is a great place to sit. The diving area and bar area's both have open decks which would be wonderful on warmer days. Meals are limited but good - there are choices everyday but do not expect a la carte. They have vegetarian options also so something for everyone. The massages at the end of the day on the ocean were excellent, the girls have been trained and are very good. There are lots of walks and a small local village close by. Just be careful with the drinking water and make sure you drink bottled water. There is paid wifi but can only be accessed in the bar area but I bought a videophone sim card which worked really well.

Room Tip: Front room overlooking ocean with aircon/ heating. If you can get the corner room as 180degree views...

This is a great location if you are looking for a super quiet vacation - lodge is 6hrs drive from Durban airport. There is a lot of hiking, biking you can do around. Bar is reasonably well equipped and drinks are very reasonable priced. Pool tables & table-tennis is available in case of bad weather.
We stayed in this lodge during Sardine Run (scuba-diving) and enjoyed it quite well.

Tips:
1) cell-phone service is mostly unavailable - unless you have a local SIM card
2) Internet is mostly unavailable and veeery slow (but you won't mind as for the price of 60mins you can have 3 gin&tonic cocktails and much more fun :-)
3) if you are coming in the winter time (June-August). bring something warn to sleep in - rooms do not have heating :-)

Room Tip: Unit 6 is close to bar & has a "ocean-view". And I think unit 3 has "ocen-view&qu...

We have visited Mbotyi several times in the past, with our last visit September 2013. We stayed in a sea facing log cabin. On arrival we poured ourselves drinks on the cabin patio and sat and stared at the beautiful surroundings. The hotel served good meals - breakfast and dinner included. We enjoyed a barbeque for every lunch. Time spent together as a family is why we go to Mbotyi.

Family activities include:
- Long walks on the beach
-4 x4 Drive along the coast on the grass lands with breathtaking oceans views
- Beach sport activities (tennis, football. etc)
- Trail running on the dirt road up the mountain
- Hiking on trails next to the coast
- Fishing in the logoon at Mbotyi
- Sunbathing next to the pool with drinks
- Table tennis in playroom late afternoon
- We also went fishing with Johan Spamer at the Port St John's River Mouth, where after we stop for KFC on our way back to Mbotyi Lodge.

There is more than many activities to do as a family. We also enjoy our afternoon naps and lazy mornings, with reading in the lounge at night before dinner.

What a peaceful place to stay if you appreciate when the sunrise and beautiful nature greet you every morning.

We will do this again!

Room Tip: Sea facing log cabins are best situated - but more corly

It is a beautiful setting where you feel at home. We arrived late that night and they had no problem to accommodate us and serve us dinner although the kitchen was already closed. The food we very good and the service good. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The only negative comment is that the rooms are a bit dated and can do with a new touch. I did feel that it was a bit overpriced.

Such a beautiful setting, but the lack of proper management really let's down this attraction.
The food is very poor and the service is shocking.
Very overpriced and a pity as with upgrading of rooms and service the views could be worthwhile
