“Nothing special”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2013

We booked this hotel at the last minute and paid £160 for a room which we were warned would suffer extreme noise until 1am. They didn't tell us that we would them suffer the noise from the kitchen extract which ran along outside of our window.
The room was small and sparsely furnished - one plastic chair, one plastic lamp which did not work (both meant to bring a retro touch to the room), one glass with one bottle of water. The bathroom had lovely design features and good lighting but as one reviewer has said - you took your life in your hands trying to climb over the edge of the bath. The basic toiletries provided were dispensed from bottles attached to the walls - not what is shown on the web site.
We are now aware of what 'pantry breakfast' means - a very basic continental breakfast with a water bath to boil your own eggs.
The overall experience was certainly not value for money and I query how they can charge their highest rate for this room (103).

Dear CamberleyNel,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, as all feedback is greatly valued.

I am sorry that the room allocated did not meet your expectations, and that you were disturbed by noise from an extractor unit. I have investigated this issue, and can confirm that it appears that on this occasion when the unit was switched on at the start of the breakfast provision, a loose bracket was causing a degree of vibration, and this has now been rectified.

I have noted that your reservation was made on the day of arrival through a booking site, had you booked direct with the hotel you would have received a more favourable rate which included our Pantry Breakfast, offering a selection of cheese, cold meat, pastries, juice and coffee.

I appreciate that you feel that you may not wish to return, but please do not hesitate to contact me personally so that I can look after your reservation.

If you fund yourself stuck in Surbiton for a meeting or a visit to friends then look no further for Surbiton's best hotel - Hotel Bosco! I loved my modern room and the size of it. The bathroom was the best bathroom I have experienced with dark lighting, double sink and walk in shower. I just wish I had had more time to enjoy the hotel but only managed a few hours in the bar/restaurant before an early night due to work the following day.

They share a car park space with another building which is quite a trek to and from the hotel taking 5 minutes. Great if the sun is shining, not so great if its raining cats and dogs.

The bar is very enjoyable and very cosmopolitan. Bustling with young people and a great live act singer songwriter when I was there. One thing of note was that the bar was very noisy due to its popularity. It got better as the evening wore on but early on an a=obnoxious crowd from a local business decided to use it as a shots night and one bloke decided he had ro shout every conversation. Overall though a great modern hotel and great breakfast and attractive, friendly staff.

Nicely appointed hotel close to pubic transport, shops and restaurants. The hotel restaurant was very good, reasonable prices but noisy at night. The bathroom in the room was very modern, however the lighting wasn't good for applying makeup and there was a a high step into and out of the bathtub/shower with no grab rail. Difficult for those with physical limitations (I have arthritis) and the hotel did not have rubber mats to prevent slipping in the tub. The staff were very helpful otherwise.

My wife and I arrived at the hotel on a Friday afternoon for two nights bed and breakfast. We were booked in quickly by a friendly receptionist and given the key card for our room which turned out to be well furnished with a very comfortable bed and a good bathroom. The room was quiet and we enjoyed a restful sleep.

Literally beside Surbiton Station which is only less than twenty minutes from Waterloo this hotel should be considered as a great alternative to the costly London four star hotels.

We chose a continental breakfast and this had a great selection that included smoked salmon, cheeses, cold meats, boiled eggs and an excellent range of breads. The service was attentive and friendly.

This hotel is only fourteen miles from Heathrow and although we took a taxi both ways for a total of £54 an alternative is to take the bus that runs every fifteen minutes from Heathrow to Kingston Upon Thames and then a taxi for £3 to the hotel. Given that there are dedicated bus lanes this would more than likely be as fast as the taxi.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main street

This was our second stay at Hotel Bosco as we love the central location - 2 mins walk from railway station and 10 mins walk to the river - and then about 20 min walk to central Kingston (calling into some lovely pubs on the way !). We took a risk and this time booked one of Bosco's 'budget rooms'. We were advised upon arrival that the room was over the club and as such we would experience certain noise levels on Friday and Saturday nights (however, this information was also clearly stated when we booked online). The noise levels were at worst a slight distance 'thrum' which did not affect our enjoyment of the room at all ! The room was slightly smaller than the room on our previous stay - however it was just as immaculate in presentation and cleanliness. The breakfast was buffet style and very fresh and inviting. Also, they were running a promotion for two-night stay booked during August, so we were given a food voucher to be spent on their 'brunch' menu together with two glasses of champagne - wonderful. The staff (from the receptionist to the restaurant) are all extremely helpful, very efficient and professional - Highly recommended and will be definitely be returning.

Just returned from a great stay at the bosco. Perfect location for geting the train into central london for sight seeing (25minutes) and in a good local area with plenty of shops.

Our rooms was really modern with everything we needed, the bathroom was especially nice! Good to have a room more funky and stylish than the norm.

We had a few drinks in the bar downstairs which was busy as it was bank holiday, which suited us. Great night out and nice to be able to just go upstairs to bed!

Would definatly reccomend for a weekend away.

We enjoyed our stay - nice clean comfortable accommodation. Friendly helpful staff. Nice restaurant & bar. Plenty of other places nearby if you feel like eating out. Train station, buses & taxis very close to the hotel.
