Owner description: The old Vindlaus farm has been turned into a fascinating and diverse open-air museum. The museum is located in the midst of a lush and powerful cultural landscape, and shows you centuries long traditions in folk arts and crafts, with richly decorated works in silver, wood and textile.

Our guide was very informative, giving formal information, as well as little bits of social history and tales.
The museum was a folk museum, showing local history, costume, weapons, and tools, along with an exhibition on Hydro Power.
Cafe served good food at reasonable price (for Norway)

This museum combines the modern with the old. A new section was opened in the summer 2012. The museum contains displays of traditional handicraft and national costumes, hand-made silver brooches and other n. costume-silver, and knives for the men's n. costumes. Also, there is a display about Norway's oldest export industry: Whetstone was quarried just a km from the museum (the sites can be seen today), carried on horseback the very steep mountain side down to Lake Bandak at Dalen to Lastein Brygge (Lastein = "loading stone", brygge = pier). Here, the stones were loaded on to rafts, and sailed on the lakes and rivers, and sometimes carried over land where the rivers weren't navigable because of rapids and waterfalls, all the way down to the coast in Skien. From here, the whetstones were exported to the areas around the North Sea and The Baltic Sea, and even longer.
There's also a display concerning hydroelectric power, with some hands-on-devices.
Guding offered in English and German.
The displays could have been more supplementary, but hopefully, there will be some development here.
The museum has a nice cafeteria, and a good museum shop.

Adjacent is the nice, little Eidsborg Stavkirke (stave church / Stabkirche), a true gem, consecrated to St. Nicholas (Sankte Nikuls).
