We booked into the Gallivant for Fri & Sat and stayed in one of the newly converted deck rooms.

The rooms were quite small but very well kitted out. Really comfy mattresses and lovely linen. Very nice modern bathroom with a huge bath and very nice Noble isle toiletries. We didn't get to make the most of the terrace it would be lovely in the summer.

What makes this place special is the food. We had a dinner bed and breakfast deal which included a 3 course meal both nights. We had a really large choice on the menu and it was a hard decision as there was so many lovely things. I would highly recommend the goats cheese soufflé and the devilled crab to start and the lamb and catch of the day for mains. The tarte tatin for two topped it all off -stunning.

The other thing that made this place standout was the staff. They were very friendly and helpful throughout and gave us loads of great recommendations for dinner. On Saturday night we managed to get ourselves stranded in Rye (due to the fireworks and bonfire the town was locked down) and no taxis were working. . In desperation we called the hotel and the Genral Manager, Mark came to pick us up. Amazing.

Whist the hotel doesn't have a view of the beach you can reach camber sands in a 2 min walk over the dunes. Beautiful expansive beach.

Okay, so it is motel like, but inside: inside it is so lovely!! Wonderful atmosphere, music, amazing food, beautifully decorated in a funky, relaxing, surfer vibe. We had a great room with a HUGE bed, home made cookies, thoughtful touches - like 'all house guests are invited for complimentary tea and cakes at 4pm' - and the bed and treat for the dog who came with us to enjoy the bliss of running free on camber sands. The beach, across the road is simply breathtaking in all weathers. We also enjoyed time in beautiful Rye - galleries, vintage, crafty stuff, great places to eat. Thank you to the friendly staff at The Gallivant and to the outstanding chef in the bistro - we are coming back, this time with the kids and friends....

Room Tip: The big rooms for families and dogs are perfecto - bright, clean and comfortable - great temperature...

Stayed for one night with my wife on a Travel Zoo deal. Very attractive hotel and a lovely room, if a little small, but fine for one night. The disappointment with the room was the small standard size double bed. I thought that most hotels had larger double beds for comfort. We did not sleep very well.
The second disappointment was the second class citizen Travel Zoo menu. A choice of just two starters, one veggie, 2 main courses, nothing veggie although they did offer something from the main menu and two sweets. The main menu was large and had a good choice of food but that was £15.00 extra per person for travel zoo guests. Why do hotels offer an attractive deal then spoil it with a limited choice for dinner. Having said that, we were lucky to find meals that we enjoyed and the food that we had was extremely good and the service was excellent. Breakfast was also very good with a very good selection.
Great location near Rye with the beach across the road.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms with a king size bed.

This was our second stay at the Gallivant and. once again, we weren't disappointed.
Food was simple, fresh and well presented. Salt marsh lamb was exceptional!!
Our room was warm and welcoming on a very stormy November day.
What more can you want!

My boyfriend and I recently stayed for my birthday and loved our time in the Gallivant. The trip was a surprise for my birthday so I was in awe of all the carefully selected details from the moment we walked in. The wonderfully nautical charm of the whole place worked so well with how luxurious it also felt. Everything was beautifully finished and I felt at home straight away.

We were lucky to be staying on a weekend with such beautiful weather! It was the first weekend in October when it felt like it was almost still summer so we were spoilt with long beach walks right until it got dark. Being only across a calm road to the beach was wonderful - we could visit anytime! Camber Sands is such a great beach too - beautifully clean and golden rolling sand.

Knowing what matters to me my boyfriend had also selected this beautiful hotel for their restaurant. All the food is locally sourced with great care so that the finished dishes are not only exceptionally high quality but also support the local community. I loved that! We started with the cheese souffle and the devilled crab - both were exactly what they were meant to be, light delicate and delicious. We then enjoyed the steak and the sole. Again both dishes were wonderful - we really couldn't fault the beautiful flavours and care that had clearly gone into preparing each dish. We even found room for a dessert and my jelly made me rethink what a jelly can be! The wine we drank was from a micro estate in New Zealand (a nod to the 'local' and ethical traditions of the restaurant) and was easily one of the best I have drunk - so much so we now check menus with the hope that we might see it somewhere else!

Breakfast was no less impressive than the evening and was a wonderful welcome to a warm and sunny day. Each dish was prepared just for us and again it was clear that care and enthusiasm had gone into preparing our food.

We can't wait to visit again and are already planning a time when we can come back. Thank you for such a brilliant stay - it was a perfect birthday surprise!

What a wonderfully seaside themed hotel right by the beach with great food & lovely appointed bedrooms. Definately worth a visit along with its close proximity to Rye for some shopping & other good pubs & restaurants

Room Tip: Go for the deck rooms.....
