What a wonderful place to stay. Doubt you ll find better on every count. Wonderful hosts, lovely setting, freshest food, cleanliness, super comfy bed, could go on and on. Read the other reviews, and if there were more stars to give, this one should have them.....back to Doncaster now...!

Room Tip: You will be fine in any!

Gilpin Mill was a fabulous base from which we could explore the English Lake District. The property was rebuilt in keeping with it's heritage but with all the mod cons (big bathrooms with great showers). Jo and Steve were wonderful hosts - we were welcomed with tea and scones on arrival, there were chocolates in the bedrooms as well as tea/coffee/home-made biscuits, we had sherry and a fire waiting for us when returning home after dinner. Breakfast was a feast and shared with other guests. Gilpin Mill is a 10 minute drive to Lake Windermere and there is plenty to do even if it rains! It was a 5 star experience!

Room Tip: All rooms are delightful - beautiful furnishings and bedlinen. All rooms are light and bright with v...

Thank you both so much for a wonderful stay.

The room was beautiful with fabulous views overlooking garden and millpond.

So peaceful.

Lovely bed and bed linen, and as per previous comments, best shortbread biscuits ever! Not only that chocolates topped up each day.

The breakfasts were taken all together with other guests and they were fantastic. I had the best ever pancakes and bacon, but you could have moreorless whatever you wanted. The table was beautifully laid each day and the service was second to none!

Highly recommend Masons Arms for dinner, but make sure you book well in advance, or get there early in order to get a table at the bar.

Another local pub was The brown Horse, where we felt prices were far too high for something not very good, though others liked it.

We couldn't have been made more welcome.

Room Tip: Only three rooms and I think they are pretty much the same! all v good with fantastic huge showers.

My boyfriend and I stayed here in December last year. It was a fantastic base for a visit to the Lakes. The room was gorgeous, with a huge comfy bed and a brand new bathroom. We were made to feel incredibly welcome by Steve and Jo, especially with the topped-up tin of shortbread in the room! They were able to recommend some great places to eat, which they also booked on our behalf. There was a huge range of choice for breakfast in the morning, and nothing seemed too much trouble. Cannot recommend Gilpin Mill enough.

We had an amazing two night stay at Gilpin Mill with Steve and Jo. They are wonderful hosts and made our stay for our anniversary very special and one to remember. We had really good weather but even if it had rained it wouldn't have been spoiled as the room was so comfortable and clean with tea/coffee/water & shortbread provided. The guests are also invited to use the beautiful lounge where we were welcomed on arrival to sit by the log fire.

We would definately recommend it and hope to go back one day!

What an amazing find - this B&B tucked away in a beck in Crook. The approach is stunning - a beautiful house in beautiful surroundings. We were greeted by Steve on arrival, shown to our room and then invited to the lounge for tea and freshly baked scones in front of the fire. The en-suite room was lovely, very comfortable, well equipped and there were even home made biscuits with the tea and coffee! Breakfast was amazing - we thought we had found the best one ever in South Africa - but Jo and Steve's breakfast certainly topped it! Cereals, fresh fruit, home made bread and preserves, local bacon and sausage - it was really delicious. Jo and Steve could not be more hospitable and certainly went the extra mile.

I would give Gilpin Mill 5 * + award.

A wonderful, relaxing and very enjoyable stay. Jo and Steve are extremely welcoming, which only added to all the attractions of Gilpin Mill. On the basis of would we come back again, you bet! If only they could guarantee nice, sunny weather.....

Room Tip: Room 1 had a very large, comfortable bed, with a very refreshing shower in the en-suite.
