“Modern boutique hotel .........in a village .....loved it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

We arrived from the UK on Brittany ferries (Portsmouth to Santander crossing - which was briliant - great food, decent nights sleep, plus we spotted 6 whales and too many dolphin to count ....highly recommend it - so much better than the dover calais ferry service) and drove the 2 or so hours to the Viura. Situated in a very well kept village of 300 people with 43 winery's!! Very good place from which to explore the Rioja region but you do need a car.

Modern architectural design with a very classy feel which surprisingly fitted very well into the traditional surroundings. Great food and very helpfull staff plus the best gin and tonic ever from the friendly barman (Coffee / liquorice / orange or lime infused ......I thought G & T was just G & T).

Had a great day out on the hotels complimentary bikes ......not quite the 18lb carbon fibre racing machine im used to..... but a great way to see the area.

Roof top terrace was a great spot to relax for a few hours in the afternoon sun.

A visit to the local Luis Canas bodegas (winery) is a must ......far better than a trip to the larger named winerys (booked in advance via the hotel)

A real gem and a great start to our one week driving tour through spain and france.

It took us awhile to find this hotel in the northern part of rioja but once found extremely satisfied. The front staff was extremely helpful to us as we had our passports stolen on the road( while changing a flat tire) they called the police station for us,helped us file a report and told us which police starion to go to the next day. They accepted us into the hotel without our passports. My hsband luckily had is walet so we still had a credit card.
The restaurant for dinner was delicious and first rate. The breakfast was ample with delicious tropical fruits. The region was very enjoyable with all the bodegas
Fantastic bed/ duvet/ pillows

We spent one night (unfortunately...) at Hotel Viura. Had we only known....we would have booked for more nights. What a nice gem, great design, friendly staff, great wine and fantastic atmosphere. We took the hotel bike and went for a short ride, enjoyed the complementary wine tasting and the great room.
We are sure to come back and highly recommend.

Very modern hotel, quite a contrast to the village it's situated in. But somehow it also blends in extremely well. We spent 2 nights here in June 2014 & loved our stay here. Spacious room, excellent breakfast, great dinners & a super helpful staff. Great artworks so that wherever your eye falls, there is something to admire. The location is superb with an abundance of good wineries within 10-20 kms. We will definitely return to this amazing hotel.

My husband and I stayed here for three days the last week of May. We absolutely loved everything. The contrast between the modern hotel and the old town worked. Our room was spacious with a view of the town, the bed was very comfortable and it had a great rain shower. We ate one dinner in the restaurant-- it had a limited menu but we thought the food was very good. A substantial breakfast was included in the room rate. There is a wine shop next to the hotel and the day we arrived the neighbors were hanging around trying wines and asked us to join them. We didn't speak Spanish very well and they didn't speak English too well but we had a great time. What I haven't seen mentioned in other reviews is that if you follow the dirt road behind the hotel for just a short distance, it leads to the most beautiful vineyards and mountain views. We walked and walked and took tons of pictures. The hotel has bikes and we realized too late that they were for riding along the roads in the vineyards. The front desk was very helpful and made great of places to visit. We hadn't made any reservations to visit wineries and they were able to get us into a couple too. They also gave us a great dinner recommendation in a neighboring town. All in all a memorable visit.

Wow! Even when you've seen the pictures on their website, the hotel is an amazing sight. Not quite what you'd expect to come across in the middle a small ancient town, but it integrates surprisingly well. The interior shows the same imagination and attention to detail. The public areas exude calm, rooms are very comfortable and well-equipped. The hotel's restaurant is also excellent. The menu on their website is the reason I chose this hotel - and we weren't disappointed (how about black pudding ravioli with apple cream and vermouth sauce as a starter? - delicious!). The wine list offers plenty of choice from the region's wonderful wines - we chose the option of allowing the sommelier to choose an appropriate wine for each course (rather than trying to find one bottle which would go with everything) - an amazingly affordable option. If I had to complain about anything... the wifi is slow and a bit erratic - but maybe that's deliberate to try and force guests to relax. The surrounding area is wonderful - beautiful countryside, charming old towns, and of course lots of wineries (including a couple within walking distance). Can't wait for the opportunity to go back!

This review is essentially my thank-you to the hotel for a marvellous stay. The design is stunning, and a real contrast to the surrounding village, yet it works. In fact, it probably works so well because of the contrast. The rooms were large, beds comfy, wi-fi free, shower huge and powerful, and on and on. We actually had two rooms at the end of a corridor, and while not exactly adjoining, there was an extra door in the corridor that effectively gave us our own two-room suite-- clever.

We ate at the hotel restaurant twice for dinner and had very nice meals both times. The maitre'd and kitchen went out of their way to make something off-menu for two very picky children so that the adults could actually enjoy the meal. Breakfast was a standard European breakfast, but also had hot dishes off the menu, all included.

Finally, the staff could not have done more to make us feel welcome, answer our questions, and generally be friendly and welcome. Next time without children!
