Our ferry at 2pm was cancelled and we had been rescheduled to a later one which arrived to Ometepe after dark... it was the most wild car ride we have ever expereinced, the roads are rough especially in dark... We really thought about quitting, but pushed ourselvevs and finally made it to Totoco. and thank god we did. This place is an abosolute heaven, the view of the valcano is magnificant... the room was very comfortable with king size bed.... the staff are very friendly and helpful, help you cordinate your plan and activity on the islands... we only had a day to explore the island but managed to squeeze a hike to waterfall and kayak tour all in one day (having our own car helped)... I wished we had an extra day as Ometepe was like a fairytale and Totoco is definately the temple of the kingdom! Highly reccomended, but make sure to arrive there during daylight if you are driving yourselves as the route to the kingdom is bumpy...!

If you're going to Ometepe Island, this is the place to stay. It's centrally located (relatively speaking) in between the two volcanoes. We got there after dark and it's difficult to find, but well worth it, once you arrive. The owner, Martin, is a Dutch guy that speaks perfect English and Spanish (probably Dutch too). He takes a very pro-active interest in all his guest, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and like his only guests, though he did the same for everyone. His staff is very friendly and accommodating as well. The food is great and definitely my best meal the entire time in Nicaragua. You can't compete with the views, solitude, and unique ECO style accommodations. You're literally embedded in the mountain jungle; I even saw a Howler Monkey in the trees by our cabin. It's not 5-star luxury, but considering the remote location, it's quite impressive.

The location of Totoco being slightly elevated on Vulcan Maderas gives it the most breathtaking views we came across whilst in Nicaragua - I could've sat and stared all week.. But alas we only had 2 nights which was not long enough and we will most definitely be back.
The owners are wonderful - really helpful, interesting people with a genuine passion for Nicaragua and the local community. It was a pleasure to spend time chatting to them, learning about the development of Totoco and about the island whilst sipping on a cool beer/fresh juice and gazing out onto the Lake, the volcano and a tropical garden awash with butterflies.
They source all their produce from within a stone's throw (including the coffee!) and hire only local staff - all of whom were brilliantly helpful. The food was all really tasty and, unlike many hotels/b&bs, the beer/fresh fruit juice/coffee is all very reasonably priced.
A great range of acitivies are on offer and we chose the coffee plantation tour which was really interesting.
Would most definitely recommend Totoco to friends and family and we are already planning our next trip!

Nestled up the side of the volcano with breathtaking views all around you, Totoco Eco-Lodge is a must see/stay if you're on the Isla de Ometepe. Martin (the owner) is a fantastic guy with incredible stories, and can serve drinks and entertain all night. What a treat to meet and hang out with him. Great guy.
He even went so far as to hire someone to track us down on the ferry home when he realized that he accidentally overcharged us a few bucks on our bill. What a refreshing treat to get that tap on the shoulder! Thanks Martin, but that should have been your tip! See you next time we're down there!

If your idea of an overseas vacation is a Hilton type hotel complete with shuttle from the airport, and all the conveniences, this is not the place for you. An absolutely breathtaking location with a view of islands in the distance and set on a slope in between two volcanoes, Totoco offers a total break from the tedium of day -to- day work-oriented existence. An intensely private setting with several different types of private casitas, each totally constructed of local materials and in indigenous styles, provides a serene experience. Whether you hike into the cloud forest to the top of the volcano, tour the coffee planatation, take advantage of a kayaking adventure, or just relax in the hammocks and soak up the location, this is a memorable experience. The staff of the lodge is totally there for you, assisting with all arrangements, to include transfers from the airport to the ferry and then on to the property. And, it is totally eco-friendly. This is a new property, and it is still evolving. There are small hiccups and glitches in an all- natural environment and the roads on this end of the island are abysmal. We are already planning our return visit--if you are looking for something different and out of the ordinary, you will love this place and the people.

What a wonderful place to relax. it's totally isolated and quiet (except for an annoying cat the first night but that situation was quickly remedied the next night).

Amazing views.

The staff is attentive and helpful.

The food is terrific.

Bring flashlights; you'll need them!

Great hiking if you don't mind the heat.

There are a lot of activities available...or you can do a lot of gazing at the volcano as we did.

Highly recommended.

We were so happy to come across Totoco Lodge. It's the most beautifull place on the island. The project is done with some much love and the hosts are very helpfull. Very thing is posible.

The food is organic for the most part and it's simple but with much flavor. We loved eating there.

We stayed in the small lodge, such a romantic lodge with beautifull view.
For activities, you should go on the water with a canoo or hiking.
