We were enthusiastically advised by fellow travelers to stay at Totoco once we made it to Ometepe, but had no real "plan" to find it. We literally happened upon the sign for the lodge and made the hike up the road...WOW!!! It's truly beautiful. I'm an avid fan of off-the-grid and was blown away by the comforts made possible by people who have managed to artfully bring together their environmental compassion with creature comforts that "first world" folks expect. I have nothing but superlatives for Totoco, the over-the-top helpful trio who dreamed and brainstormed such a place, and the view...that in itself is worth the voyage there. Count yourself lucky if there's room for you!

This was our absolute favorite place that we stayed on our honeymoon in Nicaragua! Totoco is incredibly lovely -- the food is good, the staff is friendly and cool, the bungalows are great. We loved our private porch and hammock and the gorgeous sunsets with howler monkeys. The flowers were spectacular, and I've never seen such a profusion of butterflies. We relaxed on our porch, read, relaxed... The most adventurous thing we did (by choice) was a guided hike through the jungle to a coffee co-operative with Victor, who was great. My husband had a great massage. I would definitely stay here again, and recommend it highly.

we had a wonderful stay at Totoco. I cannot sya enough about the hospitality, the comfortable accommodations, the delicious food, the friendly atmosphere, and the excellent tours and massages! This is an "eco-resort" in the best sense of the word - not preachy, they do lots of good things and I learned quite a bit!

Our family of seven traveled to this remote ecolodge and farm. It was a wonderful experience and just what we all needed. We birded, hiked and relaxed. Just be prepared for the distance and marginal roads and need to use cash! Plan on using their excellent restaurant-- nothing else around!

We opened the gate to the Totoco and suddenly we were in the Garden of Eden, Nicaraguan-style - a beautiful eco-lodge with one of the most breathtaking views you will ever see - a volcano smoking lazily in the background, Lake Nicaragua blue, placid and serene lapping underneath. Palms were gently swaying and there was a riot of colourful tropical flowers all around us. Howler monkeys sounded their eerie cries. Our quarters were in the Tonatiu Lodge , a beautiful thatched cabin with an enormous four poster bed, gorgeous bathroom with Gaudi-style mosaic tiles, a hot shower and an ingenious compost loo. Roslyn, Jonathan and Martjin have created their lodge to make the minimum impact on the environment and are helping the local community with sustainable to, so this is a little bit of guilt-free luxury. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the food was excellent, the setting and view are surely the best on Ometepe (which is itself as beautiful an unspoiled island as it is possible to get). This eco-lodge sets the standard for accommodation on the island. Magical and unmissable - go.
