This place is such a little beautiful cottage retreat! Perfect for two. There is so much attention to detail here. We were greeted with warm mulled wine from our host; Siobhan, as she showed us around the cottage! The beautiful woodwork in the kitchen was done by the owners. The living room/dining area is so cute. There was fresh baked bread for us, coffee, chocolate, fresh eggs and bacon too. There's everything you may need here: TV (with every channel you could want (but may not use because you'll be out exploring the beauty around you!), free wifi, a guide for the surrounding area, books, magazines, puzzles and even an art gallery next door! The surrounding area is beautiful countryside everywhere you turn, and a good base to start from to explore the towns and villages in Devon. The Green Dragon; the town pub is a short walk and a good place to get a nice meal where you'll be greeted by the friendly locals and their dogs! The fish and chips were delicious. I felt like I was in storybook land here - it's so beautiful and truly magical!
Cannot recommend this cottage too highly. Siobhan is a treasure, and now there's the hot tub and bar - well there's nothing more to add!
Our first introduction to HOF Cottage came on a one night stop-over en route home to Hampshire from a Cornish holiday. We have stayed in all kinds of places over the years, from plush hotels to simple B&B's, but none of them come close to the degree of loving care and attention to detail we found at HOF Cottage. Owners Siobhan & Tim have done most of the restoration work on the Grade II listed building themselves - evidence of Siobhan's amazing creative skills is everywhere, from hand polished natural wood worktops, through window ledges inset with natural stone, to the handmade bedhead. In terms of visitor comfort, it would be hard to find anything extra to add - far too much to list, but the highlights were definitely the home made loaf on arrival, and the two snifters of gin and tonic in the sitting room! For a meal out, walk 5 mins up the road to the Green Dragon pub. The night we were there it was full of the warmth and chatter of friendly locals (and their dogs!), and the divine aroma of the Monday night special - mouth-watering fish & chips. We also had a drink at the Crossways Inn at Folly Gate (15 mins away) - next time (and there will definitely be one) we shall eat there too - highly recommended for food and ambiance under friendly and hard working new owners. PS : Can also recommend a visit to Siobhan's gallery next door to HOF cottage - came home with one of her amazing photos and a lovely piece of her Mum's pottery!
We had a 6 night stay in this lovely cottage. We used the location as a base to explore both West and East Coasts of Devon and of course Dartmoor. The location was perfect for this. The village of Northlew is a delight, we so enjoyed walking up to the Green Dragon for meals and drinks and to chat to the locals. We so enjoyed our 3 mile 2 Churches walk which Siobhan had mentioned to us. The cottage itself was just charming with every comfort thought of by Siobhan. Scones, bread, chocolates and some special extras were waiting for us on our arrival. I could have bought almost everything in the adjoining gallery if it would have fitted in my suitcase. We booked this cottage based on reviews by others and we are so glad we did. Thanks again Siobhan and Tim for making our only trip to Devon a memorable one. Best Wishes for the future. Laraine & Rob
We stayed at Hof Cottage for 5 nights and enjoyed every moment. We were welcomed with with Home Made fresh scones, cream and Jam, and also Home Made fresh bread which was equally amazing! Along with a few extra goodies which were greatly appreciated.
The cottage is stunning, cosy and comfortable for what we needed. We used the cottage a bad point whilst visiting our family in and around Devon and Cornwall and as perfect for coming back to after a day out - was like a little Home from Home.
The kitchen made use of every available space, and had every utensil imaginable and a great coffee machine too.
The Lounge perfect for a cosy evening resting after a long day out.
The Bedroom lovely linens on the bed and the same with the Towels also.
There is a lovely little pub a little wonder up the Hill - very welcoming and cosy too.
We would highly recommended this lovely cottage to anyone thinking of coming to Devon, we loved every moment of our trip and the cottage was one of the main highlights.
Thanks Tim and Siobhan for making our stay as perfect and stress free as possible!
See you soon :) x
We stayed for 4 nights in June. The cottage is full of character and charm. It has everything you could need, including a particularly well equipped kitchen.
Siobhan and Tim were very thoughtful and welcoming hosts, including chocolates on the bed, jam, clotted cream and scones for a traditional Devon cream tea! Plenty of coffee options too!
Would recommend to friends and family, and definitely plan to return soon.
