Thoroughly agree with previous reviewer Amanda J. We were also spending a couple of days walking with our dog & chose The Falcon as it is pet friendly. Our hosts Peter & Julie could not have done more to make our stay comfortable & memorable, even catering for my partners special diet. Our evening meal of home cooked beef in beer with mash & veg was both delicious & plentiful. The real ale was superb & the open fire was most welcoming. A visit to the Falcon is like stepping back in time, it isn't fancy, but it suited us down to the ground. Our room was lovely - overlooking the village green & the huge four-poster was exremely comfortable. The full English breakfast the following morning was enough to sustain us for the following days walk. A wonderful place to stay & highly recommended. We will be back.

We stayed here for a walking weekend, and what a fantastic pub! It really is like stepping back in time, with fabulous hospitality, food in a beautiful location. If you want 21st century 5* mod cons, it's probably not your cup of tea! but if you like atmosphere, authenticity, simple but great food and your beer poured out of a jug, you won't do better than this. We will definitely be back!

We were on a week long walking trip at nearby Litton. We knew of a pub at Arncliffe and decided midweek to visit. What a suprise as we walked through the door -everything aboout a pub we like and cannot find in the South.Pete was the perfect host pouring the best beer we had all week and Julie made us two meals on sucessive nights that were perfect. We will return but this time to stay.
On a walk from above Litton to nearby Birks Fell the day after we first visited we diverted to Arncliffe just in time for a couple of lunchtime pints !

Room Tip: We did not stay this time but spoke to others who were .They really liked the rooms

We visited the pub on a wet Sunday for lunch.

My husbands face was a picture when we went in as it was literally like stepping back in time which made it utterly perfect! It was just like stepping into a James Herriot book! The three of us were made very welcome indeed and the food served was of stomach busting quantities and utterly delicious. Two adults and one child who all wanted Cottage Pie were served a huge casserole dish full of pie and another full of vegetables to share. Ours eyes and wallet were just delighted. We were really impressed by the lovely welcome we were given and our table by the fire was lovely on a miserable day.

The majority of the customers were walkers and all were friendly and welcoming.

It was great to see pint jugs being used. If you want bottled beers and cocktails this isn't the place for you. But if you want good company, fine and delicious food at a very modest price then this is the place for you. If you are looking for an excuse to visit with a young family just tell everyone it's a hands on history lesson!

Don't forget to check out the length of the pheasants tail behind the door nearest the fire.

We are already looking forward to our return visit and I'm just hoping that Cottage Pie will be on the menu when we do.

Thankyou To all those associated with The Falcon for making it so special - please don't ever change.

Room Tip: We did not stay at the pub so I am unable to comment on accomodation

For non Dr Who geeks: "Time and Relative Dimension in Space" it means a visit to the Falcon is a journey down a Wormhole to another dimension. That said the Falcon is a step back in time but with a friendly traditional Landlord, a limited menu, but great tasting food. I stayed three nights to hike in the area and relax in the evening with a great meal and a glass of wine (beer was pre dinner). My room with Four Poster was very comfortable with a better than average bathroom (as an American UK bathrooms can be a problem) and places to hang and store all my clothes etc.The rooms have the usual Tea ad Coffee facilities but no TV, clock or phone signal, but one is welcome to use the hotels landmine phone if needed, the Wi Fi is awesome no bandwidth issues here. The Falcon is famous for its beer, one beer served straight from the barrel by ceramic pitcher (jug) British beer at its best. There are some areas of the hotel that maybe could be persuaded to join the 21st century, but the guest rooms, dining-room and food need no such persuasion. For residents there are two sitting areas one full of leather chairs and lots of books, and one with satellite TV and comfortable chairs.
Many guest stay at the Falcon to take advantage of fishing in the very nearby river, the fishing rights to a section belong to the Falcon and as such free to guests. I cannot close without mentioning the breakfast, of course a great Traditional Dales English, but there are choices, and dietary needs are catered for.
All in all a great place to relax and unwind, and your laptop will not have withdrawal symptoms.

P.S. I discovered down the hall from my room a bathroom with a very deep tub, great for soaking away the aches from a day hiking, and relaxing before dinner.

They say nostalgia ain't what it used to be, but a visit here should convince you it's alive and well and living in the Yorkshire Dales. We dropped in for lunch while on a break in nearby Grassington and as we walked through the door it was like we were entering a time warp. The bar area really is a public house -- like someone has opened their sitting room to paying customers. There are no pretensions whatsoever. The space is cramped. The furniture's shabby. The range of drinks on sale is limited. The menu is short. But it all feels absolutely right. The food is actually very good. I had a fish finger butty for lunch but the next evening I went back for dinner and had an excellent curry. I also enjoyed a couple of pints of Timothy Taylor's (choice of one). The landlord is friendly and welcoming. I hope they don't change a thing about this place. I love it for what it is.

We walked from Kettlewell to Arncliffe and back to Kettlewell via Hawkswick. The Falcon was our lunch stop. The Timothy Taylor beer was served straight from the keg but was surprisingly cold and lively (we were probably the first customers of the day). Sandwiches (corned beef, yum) were very good. Most importantly, Arncliffe is a gorgeous little village in Littondale, one of the loveliest of the dales, which makes a stop at the Falcon a very good idea.
