Hotel Amfora Dimitrovgrad

Since fourteen years we stay at the hotel Amfora twice a year on our summer trip from Turkey to Germany and back. It's the best place you can imagine for such purpose. The place is safe (garage for the car), the rooms are clean and the stuff is friendly. We appreciate especially Mr Jordan, the owner. Every summer we look forward to see him again. Once we had a problem with our car when we wanted to start in the morning and he was very helpful indeed.
By the way, he speaks german too.

I was cycling by on an Istanbul-Budapest trip and reached here in the afternoon. I found the place completely by chance. It was every bit as perfect as I would want a village place to be: great staff, cool weather, nice, old trees providing shadow over the terrace, authentic food, quite, clean, walking distance to downtown, free WiFi, regular gueats and extemely cheap. Stopped for dinner, stayed for the night.

Two reasons why it gets 4 stars, not 5: credit card terminal was not working, but they accepted everything from euro through all the eastern European currencies; the owner, a large, Serbian man, banged loudly on my door at 10:43 pm yelling to "get out". Woken in my sleep, I had to walk down to the reception to register my passport details. I am sure this could have been solved in a more appropriate manner.

So, I was riding my Harley from Tbilisi, Georgia to Geneva, Switzerland... I was cold, wet and had a rough day coming through Bulgaria... Needing a place to recover, I got off the highway and saw this very attractive little hotel. It was perfect. Inexpensive, clean, safe fotr me and my bike (they have a garage for vehicles). and friendly. There is a good restaraunt, cozy and warm with a nice menu and a good cook. I stayed an extra day to get better from a cold that had hit me along the way and left better and rested. The owner is a good guy and attends to needs. This is a really good stop for anyone who just needs a good meal and a warm bed in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. No frils, but just what a traveler needs sometimes to rest and begin to smile again on a jouirney. No issues, no glamour... Just good and plenty of value for the low price.
