“Beautiful historic Cathedral”

Reviewed 21 September 2013 via mobile

The Cathedral is right in the centre of town, by the town plaza.
This is a beautiful Carhedral with so much history, built in the 15th century, the architecture is wonderful.
Unfortunately we were unable to see inside the church, as they do not allow visitors when the church is not open, but it was great just to wonder around outside.

Almost every catholic in Romblon is baptized here. It is a 15th century baroque inspired structure located at the center of Romblon Town. The facade and roof have seen several repairs but on its side the old bell tower still stand. Fort Santiago, one of the two spanish era forts built to prevent pirate attacks and guard the port, is located behind the Church - but only a few stones are left. The Cathedral is the center of most fiestas, baptisms and last farewells. Exploring around it and standing right in front facing the plaza gives you a feel that you were transported back in time to the colonial days of Spain and America in the Philippines. The upper portion of the bell tower is relatively new but it's base is at was when it was built. The cathedral was built by the Augustinian Friars.
