“Fantastic stay! 5*”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

Myself and three girlfriends stayed in July 2013 for three nights. From start to finish (booking-stay-checkout) our experience was fantastic. Great communication.
Our apartment was incredibly spacious, clean, well set out. We had everything we could have wanted (except for maybe a dish towel!) We had access from both bedrooms and the main living area onto our own private balcony with views out toward the River and over the pool area. Some of us had breakfast, some ate in - there was excellent produce available 5 mins walk from the hotel. The inclusive facilities (swimming pool, sauna, indoor pool etc) were brilliant. We all commented on how great it was to have the self-catering option within the hotel setting. The food and drinks were fantastic, even with music outdoors by the poolside one evening. The whole experience was BRILLIANT. Our main reason for staying was the Optimus Alive festival, which is only 1km or so away (5-7 euros one way in a taxi), or the hotel had their own available taxi service to the festival - perfectly situated. Highly recommend this hotel for a girly holiday or a family holiday and I will definitely be back!

We stayed at the Solplay for 5 nights at the end of July. We had a family suite with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a pool view. The apartment was huge with lots of cupboard space, a cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, kettle and toaster. Breakfast was included and was very nice with a good selection of cereals, toast and eggs/ bacon. The balcony was lovely and each bedroom had it own access. The pool looked nice, but we did not have time to try it. Lisbon was five minutes away by car and the hotel also has a shuttle bus, however it is some distance by bus or metro. Overall though a nice hotel and we would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for 8 nights as we built our holiday around going to the Optimus festival. Got here at the height of the heat wave with a temperature of 41 degrees on the Sunday. We ate in the hotel on our first night at the 19€ buffet which was nice and gave an introduction to Portugese cuisine. The breakfast buffet was a feast with fresh fruit, yoghurts, cold cheese and meat, cereals, selection of coffees, breads/pastries/rolls and a variety of hot food. The restaurant is lovely and clean and bright.
The rooms were nice and big and we had two x 1 bed apartments for five of us. Our rooms were spotless and we had no issues like a couple of reviews below. We had plenty of coat hangers and I had no complaints about our bathrooms as they were cleaned daily. Do agree that the huge tv's could be replaced, but then I didn't go to Lisbon to watch television!!!
We used the washing machine to freshen up our towels and swim wear after a day at the beach. They even provided the washing liquid. The hotel has towels for the pool so you only need to take towels if going to the beach yourself.
We used the indoor pool everyday which was a bonus as it was too hot to be in the sun on our first day. Yes one of the glass panes was shattered above the pool but this was replaced 4 days into our stay. Tennis court was ok but as this was also the football area if you booked for tennis you had to ask smaller kids to leave while you played.
The hotel had great views of the river and coast opposite. We hired a car and drove to Guincho Beach one day which was about 45 mins away. We also went for a meal in Cascais one evening and then went to Hard Rock Cafe in Lisbon another night. Easy enough to drive around. The staff at the hotel drew us a couple of maps which were perfect for getting onto the main roads. Hotel has an underground car park.
They also have a complimentary shuttle into Lisbon which leaves at 9.30 and returns at 6/6.30 so we went in one morning and got a taxi back at around 4.30 pm. Taxi was 12€
I would recommend a meal at the Docas which one of the receptionists suggested. This is a whole row of around 20-30 warehouses which have been refurbished and are now restaurants, clubs and shops. It sits right under the 24 April bridge.
In short this hotel is handy enough for city and coast and was nice and quite with lovely gardens and pool area. If I had one small complaint it would be that there was nothing to do in the evening in the hotel itself. When we were there (6-14 July) we were often the only people in the bar. There was no music or entertainment and the kids sat on their iPhones using the wifi to amuse themselves.
Would recommend this hotel and if I was going back to Lisbon I would definitely try to book this hotel again.

Very friendly, helpful and professional front desk staff. Rooms larger than average with a kitchen providing oven, hob, fridge/freezer, kettle, and toaster. All new appliances. No iron or ironing board in the room. Not many coat hangars in the wardrobes. Handy free to use safe. Huge balcony with seating area. Excellent remote control air conditioning unit. TV with lots of US satellite channels. Strong free WIFI throughout the hotel and pool area, including room. Pool area large, modern and clean with lots of sunbeds available. Pool bar very reasonable - €3 for large glass of Sangria. Hotel restaurant very nice, good food and well priced. Buffet available in the evenings for €19 per person with a nice selection. On the outskirts of Lisbon - around 15 mins/€13 in a taxi. All in all, a lovely contemporary well-priced hotel.

Stayed for a week in July pre and post Optimus Alive, which is about 1 mile away, which equates to a 25(ish) minute walk downhill (note: that is back up hill on the way home!!).

Had a great stay - room was spacious with lounge and kitchen/dining area with all supporting appliances etc. We did test out the room service in the name of research and it proved to be a good choice - and incredibly reasonable in regards to cost. The room benefited from a HUGE balcony facing out over the Estádio Nacional, with stunning views of the River Tagus. On a whole, incredibly happy with quality and cleanliness of the room.

Hotel facilities we brilliant - pool space was amazing with plenty of room and sun beds even on the more busy days. The pool itself was perfect, with an in pool bar - what more could you want?

The surrounding Alges area is a little quiet with only a few restaurants and cafes, however, Lisbon is only 3/4 stops on the train - the station is just a 15/20 minute walk from the hotel.

Overall a great hotel - it served our purpose perfectly.

It was a very good stay at a nice and well located hotel. The view is panoramic over Tagus River, Lisbon and Oeiras coast. On a quiet neighborhood, with a small garden around the pool, the apartments are well equipped and spacious, with balcony. The stay was during a heat wave (38, 39 centigrade degrees) and the air conditioning coped well with the situation. Good breakfast, friendly staff.
The hotel could benefit from a minor refresh (new painting, TVs).

Room Tip: All views are very good, but the pool/river/sea view is the best.

We stayed here in May, and the weather was perfect! The accommodations were much larger than what we were used to in the rest of Europe. The room we had was on the third floor overlooking the pool. From our very large balcony we could see the surf on the other side of the Tagus river. We could also watch the cruise ships come in as well as other harbor traffic. VERY small washer/dryer in the room was nice for cleaning small items. Took forever to dry a pair of jeans. The room also had a small kitchen with fridge. A short 3 Euro cab ride took us to Pingo Dolce, the nearest grocery for snacks to keep in the room. Very clean and comfortable!! The hotel has two pools, inside and outside, a personal movie theatre (its a DVD on a big screen and the movies are a little dated, but the kids loved it!), a tennis court (could use a little TLC), a bar and restaurant. The food is traditional Portuguese fare and quite good. The breakfast buffet is huge with lots of fruit, pastries and traditional fare. Cab fare to downtown was around 8 Euro.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the pool. Definitely worth it!!! The view from the other side was less tha...
