Make sure you check if there is a wedding on. The whole beach bar and pool area has been shut off to guests today (Saturday) with no prior notice, just a board at breakfast. It's been all day but before 6pm they have stopped servicing the guests who have relocated to the beach, both bar and toilets. Plus the live wedding music outside is very loud and is amplifying around the resort all day.
It's a shame as it's very beautiful here but we now can't access the areas that make this a 5 star resort and worth being out of town and alongside a busy carriageway for.
Can't fault the beautiful setting, stunning pools (when you can use them) and access to clean private beach area. Breakfast amazing and set glamorously next to the pool.
Room very nice (road noise so ask for higher or at the back) the chambermaids are definitely 5 star, efficient, discreet and make the room look lovely.
Yes we would return but not if half the facilities closed off.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments online, and thank you for the wonderful review about our staff and grounds. I agree with you, both of them are truly amazing.

On the other hand, please accept my sincere apologies regarding your experience on Saturday, when in fact, there was a wedding taking place in our beach facilities. As you can imagine, one of the most seeked wedding venues in the area is our beautiful beach club for many reasons. We try our best to make this kind of events unnoticeable for the rest of our guests, unfortunately we can not succeed completely. So, for what is worth, I am sorry for your discomfort.
But is very nice to read that the rest of your stay went without a glitch.

Kind regards,

I tend to only provide positive reviews on either TA or Yelp, but I felt I had to add a review for my current stay at Don Carlos in Marbella. Before deciding on DC, we read through a lot of reviews of the hotel and also checked out the website. We were REALLY excited to spend 2 nights at this resort. After our arrival we started to come across some things that we weren't happy with. Let me just get the positives out of the way first. The grounds are INCREDIBLE. They do a remarkable job with the upkeep of the landscaping. The first pool is gorgeous. The sea views are stunning. Easy access to beach and located right next to Nikki Beach. The hotel offers awesome Molton Brown toiletries. Unfortunately, that's where it ends. The hallway to floor 4 had a horrible odor to it which sometimes creeped into the room. We notified the front desk, but they told us it's due to the city's water filtration and there is nothing they can do. There are stains all over the carpets in the hallways as well as our room. One stain in our room was either blood or ketchup. I'm hoping for the latter. The sheets on the bed smelled of stale humidity. The beach club pool was dirty. The dining staff was COMPLETELY inattentive. The shower had half a glass wall which resulted in our bathroom floor becoming half flooded. The breakfast, although free, was lackluster. Finding a towel at the pool or even to get someone to help us out was a complete project. And lastly, there was pubic hair on the floor in the bathroom as well as ants. Considering what we paid for our room per night, we expected an experience something COMPLETELY different than what we had. We had such high hopes for our stay at Don Carlos but unfortunately we are leaving highly disappointed.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments online, and thank you for your comments regarding our positive points, which are plenty.

I am really sorry that your experience was not what you expected, and please let me reassure you that what you write are not, far from it, our standards.
We are under a renovation process and all the areas of improvement that you detected will be successfully bettered.

We hope to have you back very soon, in order to show you that the DC experience is so much different.

We were very pleased by our stay at Don Carlos. The gardens were magnificent, beach club and pool were very nice as well. Breakfast on the terrace with live music was an excellent start to the day. Very friendly staff. As parking spaces can't be reserved, you may have to find a space on the street when the lot is full.

Room Tip: Even though we had a standard, sea view room, we were pleased with the high standard of the room and view over the property towards the sea.

Dear Guest,

It is a pleasure to read such wonderful comments! So thank you for taking the time to write them on Trip Advisor. It is one of the best ways to let our future guests what wonderful things they can expect from their holidays or from a few days off.

Regarding the parking spaces, we have a whole new parking sideways to the resort, that is half covered and very safe. Please be sure to ask for it on your next stay.

We hope to see you very, very soon.

Kind regards,

Lovely rooms , pools And gardens
Breakfast tasteless with long coffee queues (surely this can be sorted) and long egg queues.
Breakfast room needs updating - very tired.
Service at pool terrible - we ended up getting our own drinks. Very slow. Would be nice to have some music at the lower pool and beach club.

We stayed in a 2 bed villa for 2 nights. The villa was stunning and had access to a pool exclusively for villa guests. Also a personal assistant was at our beck and call. Nothing was too much trouble-and the service was efficient and friendly.

The hotel gardens are beautiful and although the hotel was busy, it was always peaceful (even during breakfast).

The hotel would appeal to families or equally groups of adults.
